About this deal

also what I’m asking is that I have a splitter cable with the hook up plugs which plugs in to the van first then campsite power plugs into one of the plugs leaving a spare so you can run a suncamp rcd to a tent but I think the suncamp rcd with lead is only 1. We have rechargeable camping lights that are really good, electric cool box, electric pump for the tent and air beds, chargers, kettle, etc. cable what I’m concerned about is that this is for my daughter in her tent is this a safe thing to do or should I replace the cable to 2.

Infact this year we where boiling the kettle for the baby next doors bottles as it was faster than their gas. I wrote an article last week about the best rechargeable camping lights too, we use the Luminoodles in the tent to light it up. But they are on specially constructed appliances, for a domestic wiring system for example you need to ensure the switch to a light is actually in the live (feed) to render the light fitting is dead when the switch is off (and normally that the inner contact in an Edison screw fitting is the live one). There are lots of different ways to cook, entertain and keep foods cool without the need for an electricity supply. We camped last week in 34 degrees and managed with our non electric coolbox, just if you're worried.

Most electric hook up points are shared between two pitches too, so if you go over your allowance then it will kill your neighbours supply as well. My personal recommendation is for the Crusader EHU but I’ve selected 2 others you may want to consider in my article for the 3 best electric hook up cables for camping and caravanning. Besides getting a robust, safe EHU cable as detailed above there are a few other pointers for being safe with your electric hook up. From being intermittent it is now a permanent refusal to charge leisure battery from hook up although 240v is going through to the 240v plug on the side of the kitchen. So, in a bid to combine fitness with frugality, I've rounded up 20 ways you can exercise and get fit without spending a penny, both outdoors and at home.

The CAMC does not allow splitters, but it does not have many sites that allow tents so its unlikely to be a deal breaker. There simply isn’t enough current (amps) to do that and using more than the electrical point provides will see the supply trip out and stop. I reckon your emphatic recommendation of camping hook-up cables versus domestic cables is misleading, and should be reconsidered. As I am a lighting/production electrician we refer to these as 16amp C-form connectors and they are widely used in the entertainment industry.

The best way to avoid a problem is to plan ahead and familiarise yourself with the electrical needs of all the appliances you may use in your motorhome. The ‘hook-up’ system, of connecting your ’van to mains electricity, is surprisingly simple and reliable. Use and charge multiple devices from the comfort of your tent with this three-socket mains converter kit from Eurohike. Motors such as those in fan heaters need a starting surge of nearly twice their usual current, while fluorescent lights use four or five times their usual current rating. If that is the case you should be fine as long as your daughter doesn't use any high-amperage appliances such as a heater.

Practical Motorhome is part of Future plc, an international media group and leading digital publisher. I've changed my mind though, and come around to the point of view that just wanging a 16A plug on the end of an extension lead might be a tiny bit sketchy and the RCD is a good idea. First time camping in France this year and I need to get a cable that will go into the hookup on site (I'm told it's 3 pin) that we can plug our own UK extension cable into. Last resort was to empty the boot and look at the power supply cable at the converter but it looked okay. However, also bear in mind that many devices demand a higher current for a split second when they start up. There are even cases documented on the web where people have installed a ventilator in the cupboard to cool the charger/fridge cooler when in Italy. If I'm camping by myself with the kids I always do electric as it makes things that little bit easier. If you did have power at the mains socket then check the mains lead into the Charger unit located by the Leisure battery in the wardrobe/kitchen unit. Ours was on 'off' and we have never had the charger switch off when the temp down there got hot because of the fridge working hard.

Problems can be avoided by switching on the highest surging product(s) first, while the current draw is still low. uk/15983974/eurohike-mobile-mains-kit-with-usb-15m-15983974 That will provide at least some of the required Residual Current breaker (electrocution mitigation) protection and MCB (fuse protection) of the sockets.

My name is Matt and welcome to Skip and Jump, I’m a pro-photographer with a passion for the outdoors, living easier, tech and travel. Although MCBs (and fuses) provide a degree of electrical protection, there are still hazardous circumstances against which MCBs cannot protect. As far as I am aware, 16A supply is for hardstanding intended for motorhomes (MHs) and caravans, and not for tents via an EHU kit.
