There is no shortage of graphic violence, and the set up is particularly disturbing, but don't let that distract you, because the psychological aspects are where the real scary stuff is. The MC isn’t a great socialite, and we find out why as we go, but she clearly cares about her team and knows them well. Maybe it is just me, but has anyone else noticed the trend to have female investigators have troubled pasts? This is Marsons' debut novel, but you already feel the vibration of something grand about to happen from the first page onward.All I can say is that this crime novel, “Silent Scream” by Angela Marsons was amazing, and I was very surprised to see that this was her debut novel. They worked so effortlessly well, and, to my delight, teased Kim, and got lashed right back by Kim's sharp tongue. This one is one of the best crime thrillers I've read in a long time , and that includes mainstream authors such as James Patterson!

To be honest, I do find it hard to criticise the character of Kim as I recognise a lot of her traits in myself, and as such, with the way she is portrayed on the page, I have to say she is a truly well developed and observed character indeed. This book just blew me away… I LOVED and ADORED this book and I am chomping at the bit to get onto the next already! I have read three of the four Kim Stone crime thrillers at this point, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. But Angela Marson's Silent Scream has led me to virtually abandon work for the last day, even with deadlines looming, leaving my house a mess and the ironing pile untouched… ticks all the boxes for a 5* rating from me: a well written flowing story; strong but vulnerable protagonist; fast pace; intrigue; twists and turns until several final OMG moments; plenty of action; and the revealing of a brutal murderer.Years later, a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country.
