Unlike your experience I now own 10 Chinese pens from Jinhao, Duke, Baoer and Hero and not had a bad pen amongst them. My x450 had serious flow issues but after a thorough flush out worked great too (a common problem I’ve read).

But the nib is smooth and I found that if you stick it in a Noodler's Ahab it makes for a very wet, smooth writing nib.

I've found that you have to take out the feed and scrub it with a slim-bristled toothbrush and some soapy water making sure you get in between the slit of the ink channel. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first. People that are happy with them tend not to come on and say so, unlike others who tend to come on and moan like hell about every little thing they can find on a pen that costs a couple of dollars.

Before beginning this blog, I thought this pen would just sit in my collection because of the poor experience I initially had with it. The degree of line variation will give any handwriting an appealing look and can improve legibility.There really are eight horses cavorting over a field and a poem in Chinese characters across the top. This was an unplanned purchase but while I was browsing the web a few months ago I came upon these Chinese pens and noticed that brands like Jinhao and Hero have a huge variety of designs.
