About this deal

Disc one concludes with KALUSH’s winner from 2022, Barbara Pravi’s ‘Voilà’ from 2021, Netta’s win from 2018, and Salvador Sobral from 2017. Nice, the only thing that lets it down is the horrible cardboard sleeve which are so tight to get the cd out and edges that can scratch the disc.

Sadly it’s just a cardboard trifold sleeve, no booklet or pictures, the contest has been quite the visual experience over the years, just to see the fashion and hairstyles over the years would have been fun!LP2 presents a run of perfect Pop gems, including Loreen with ‘Euphoria’, ‘Popular’ from Eric Saade, ‘Wild Dances’ from Ruslana, Helena Paparizou, Verka Serduchka and Netta, before heading back to well-loved ‘80s winners from Nicole with ‘A Little Peace’, Johnny Logan’s ‘What’s Another Year’, and one of the greatest singers ever, Céline Dion with the 1988 victor ‘Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi’. One of the greatest singers ever, Céline Dion won the contest back in 1988 and leads LP3, which also includes ‘Hold Me Now’ from Johnny Logan, and 4 more winning songs from Jamala, Marija Šerifović, Secret Garden, and the first of four 1990’s victors representing Ireland, Eimear Quinn with ‘The Voice’. Note: it comes in a cardboard gatefold sleeve rather than a jewel case - not my favourite format to be honest, but it's nice and compact for the shelf! The first disc includes the anthems ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Love Shine A Light’ before the massively popular winner ‘Fairytale’ from Alexander Rybak, and dance-floor fillers from Charlotte Perrelli, Gina G, and Dana International.

Flip the LP over for the final side which is all about celebrating the earlier years of the contest. Over on side 2, ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’ from Conchita opens, followed by Måns Zelmerlöw with ‘Heroes’ and favourites from Verka Serduchka, and Netta.Products labelled '*item fulfilled by Exertis on behalf of hmv' will be supplied to you directly by Exertis via their approved couriers. The earlier years of the contest are celebrated on Disc 4 with the classic ‘Congratulations’ by Cliff Richard leading the track-list. L’Oiseau Et L’Enfant’ from Marie Myriam leads into timeless ballads from Anne-Marie David with ‘Wonderful Dream’, and Gigliola Cinquetti with ‘Go (Before You Break My Heart)’, before closing with the timeless ‘All Kinds Of Everything’ from Dana. Flip the LP over for the final side which is all about celebrating the earlier years of the contest… the classic ‘Congratulations’ by Cliff Richard is leading the track-list.

With so many songs entered since the beginning (some highly cherished and others best left in the vaults) this won’t please everyone, but it’s a great chance to hear many of these songs again, and I hope further volumes are released or a DVD/Blu-ray collection - they should have “tooken one step further”! I really like this album as it manages to incapsulate the very essence of what the Eurovision Song Contest is all about.Established acts that represented the UK in the ’70s include Olivia Newton-John, The Shadows and The New Seekers – all featured. The discs are just slotted into a cut half way inside the sleeve, I’m not a fan of this as the discs can get scratched with frequent use. Gina G, Verka Serduchka and Dana International bring the dance-floor classics, whilst Lordi and Måneskin brought Rock to the contest – and won! LP4 starts with ‘What’s Another Year’ – the first of Johnny Logan’s winners, and Nicole’s victor ‘A Little Peace’… as well as winners from Bobbysocks, Riva, Sandra Kim, Carola, and Corinne Hermès.
