About this deal

Alvalyn Creative LLC supports organizations serving military veterans, humanitarian aid, and canine companions. You don't want extra smudgy fingerprints on your canvas (or clothes or anything else for that matter!

SAVE MORE WITH REUSABLE SHEETS: A single sheet of graphite paper transfer paper can be used many times. For younger folks who might not be familiar with the concept, to make an "instant copy" of something you would place a sheet of carbon paper underneath your writing paper, and a copy of what you wrote would be transferred to the sheet below. As long as you remember not to drag your drawing hand across the surface, you will achieve a clean clear line drawing. Before I discovered transfer graphite paper, I used to spend hours drawing the images in the reference photo onto the canvas. You can even make your own graphite transfer paper by drawing all over paper with a pencil or progresso. Be careful to only lift up a tiny piece, because you don't want to throw everything out of alignment.

If you are transferring extra-large images, pick up a pack of these graphite sheets, which measure 20 by 26 inches. This means it is particularly good for watercolor artists and graphic designers who want a fainter line to work with; just make sure you apply consistent and even, hard pressure—but not too hard so you don’t dent your paper or canvas. You may need to readjust placement of the transfer sheet if you are copying over the same exact pattern on multiple pieces to get the best use out of it. You can transfer your drawings without using transfer paper at all (this method is also shown in the video) if you don’t mind compromising the reverse side of the drawing. We like that they come in sets of four sheets packaged on a convenient roll to prevent tearing and creasing.

But because it is less messy than graphite paper and leaves a more durable mark, it is popular with crafters.

We use washi tape to help hold their watercolour paper down and they love choosing a bright colour and taping it all up. Take a kneaded eraser and knead it until it’s soft, then gently drag it over the drawing to pick up any graphite grubbiness. Cass Art, Cass Art London and the Cass Art logo are trade marks and trade names of Art-Line Limited. Simply slip a sheet of graphite paper between your image and the drawing surface with the graphite-covered side facing downward, then use a sharp-tipped pencil or pen to trace over the contours of the image.

Compare that with the photo of the reference image before the tracing, and you can see how much detail you need to capture. Use them for classroom activities and crafts with young ones, and you can create, for instance, illustrations for coloring in, practice tracing before moving onto freehand, or simply demonstrate how transfers work. The alcohol will dissolve and redistribute the graphite, smoothing it and reducing its smudge capability. When you're finished, slowly release the artist tape from the canvas, lifting each corner one by one.
