About this deal

This first book in the Mark of the Lion series is so much more than a book about early Christianity and why Rome hated it. When Maximus escapes death he rides home to save his family; when he gets home his family has been murdered and house burnt to the ground.

It stars Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf Möller, Oliver Reed (in his final role), Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi, John Shrapnel, and Richard Harris.Informative enhanced with the inclusion of maps, tables, figures, and pictures, "The Real Gladiator: The True Story of Maximus Decimus Meridius" is an inherently fascinating read and one that will have special and enduring appeal for readers with an interest in Roman history, politics, gladiatorial combat, and military actions. According to Ellis Award nominee Andrew Salmon, "The writing is edgy, crisp, and fast-paced, with surprising disregard for the conventions and morals of the 30’s. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! The first in an unforgettable historical saga from the New York Times bestselling author of The Alice Network and The Diamond Eye. Fans of other illustrated chapter books, like Pugs of the Frozen North by Sarah McIntyre and Philip Reeve, will enjoy this funny historical adventure.

The late Richard Harris and Oliver Reed give high performances and a quality that shines timeless etherality. For more than 600 years, people flocked to arenas to watch these highly-trained warriors participate in.Combined with the specialist knowledge of a team of historians and contributors, each book should provide unbeatable and accurate references for any modelling or painting project. While wealthy Roman citizens indulge their every whim, Jews and barbarians are bought and sold as slaves and gladiators in the bloodthirsty arena. Usually, novelizations of films and TV aren't very good, tend to be one-dimensional and just recap the bare bones of the story.

It still freaks me out and totally awes me when reviews for my novels mention her in the same sentence. The warriors who battle each other are not super-men, they are normal men, real fighters, who get bashed and beat up at every turn. Glimpses of the remarkable personalities of the time come through in this engaging read for the armchair historian. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend this seller to anyone looking for quality items. I must admit I read this when I was in a very fragile state of mind having just suffered a terrible tragedy of my own, so it’s possible that affected my reading of A Day of Fire and how I responded to it, but I know it was extremely well written and I was so glad to have read it.Hugo finds success in his teenage years, becoming a star football player, and receives a college scholarship. Effectively their aim is to produce a 21st Century version of the Profile Publications series of books from the 1960s, using the latest technology to reproduce their wartime photos to the highest standard possible. The novel is widely assumed to have been an inspiration for Superman due to similarities between Danner and the earliest versions of Superman who debuted in 1938, [1] [2] though no confirmation exists that Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were directly influenced by Wylie's work.
