About this deal

Long-time supporting characters of Batman, James Gordon and Harvey Bullock, also made recurring appearances. It did remind me of Marvels, to be honest, except I did like the artwork in Marvels more than I liked the artwork in this series. Rather than viewing the city from the lofty perspective of Batman or billionaire Bruce Wayne we see how ordinary people experience life in crime-ridden Gotham. Like any work place, though, differences in demeanor, attitude and aptitude, creates interpersonal conflicts, making all of them more "real". I was not expecting that, but I still enjoyed that part of the series the most - about how her character changed over the course of the forty issues.

The year-long break provided by the Infinite Crisis event provided an opportune place to close out the main storylines. Though the work of nearly a dozen different artists over the course of the series, the rough lines and washed-out colors prevail through the various styles, giving the issues a consistently gritty look. This is potentially one of the most compelling Police procedurals I've ever encountered, right up there with HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET.Geoff Johns' Aquaman completely revitalized the character, and his collection in omnibus form truly cements the growth that Aquaman has undergone in the New 52, tackling the jokes Aquaman has endured throughout his career and producing iconic storylines such as "The Trench. Ultimately Lark and Brubaker moved on to other projects, and, after three years of publication, the series ended amid the Infinite Crisis aftermath.

As a 75 issue comic series, The Sandman Omnibus collects this highly popular storyline into three easy to navigate, although large, hardcover books. When he leaves the book, his replacements are noticeable but they were able to maintain the style of his art. My one gripe with this series is at its conclusion, when the book was forced into participating with the company-wide “Infinite Crisis” storyline. It's a shame there aren't many comics like this but we can still get bombarded with multiple flavors of Justice League and The Avengers every month. You can also see the release date for the book here but keep in mind that some publishers have different comic vs retail release dates (though most of the companies that are with PRH are the same date). The character development was pretty decent; by the end, it felt like the story was about one person's journey in particular, despite the series tending to focus on four-to-six 'main' characters. Kirby is a household name, having worked with both Marvel and DC Comics, creating storylines that paved the way for epic events. Reason being is that there is no finality or closure for any character besides Renee Montoya, Daria, Crispus Allen, and James Corrigan. If you start the book saying that these are very important characters, go through the entire book proving that these are in fact important characters, why not end the book like they are important characters?
