The Starter Pack, containing the game, the USB toy pad, and three minifigures, was released in September 2015, while additional level packs and characters were released over the following two years.

R. Labs from The CW's The Flash, Bedrock from The Flintstones, the family room from The Jetsons, and the DNA ship from Red Dwarf. With plenty of funny scenarios and familiar puzzles to get your teeth sunk into, there’s also the chance to hop in the Batmobile (after you’ve built it with LEGO!In typical LEGO game fashion, there’s also golden bricks to find, and studs to collect that can be spent on a variety of items, including power and weapon upgrades for the Batmobile, as well as new abilities to unlock new areas. While the Doctor, GLaDOS, and X-PO work on a plan to seal Vortech in a rift loop, the heroes head to Foundation Prime, fighting him along the way. To help keep it all straight, the game pops up a question mark block each time I encounter an obstacle I can't get through.

Even the Flash, who I managed to find but was not allowed to become, seems to think he hails from Metropolis. Without spoiling much, the intro movie appears to hail from the fun and creative 'LEGO Worlds,' where the world is built from virtual LEGOs and 'Minecraft' like exploration is encouraged. Using a character from a certain franchise will also unlock that franchise's Adventure World, an open-world area for players to explore and complete in-game objectives. The LEGO Toy Pad and the videogame found in the initial Starter Pack will offer continued compatibility with future Expansion Packs for years to come. The introduction already stated that this game revolves around finding five keystones, each with a unique ability.The interaction with the portal can get a little confusing at the start, with it forcing you to switch the positions of your characters between the seven platforms to solve puzzles and avoid the fire from the Wicked Witch of the West, but it serves its purpose well and it’s good fun having to switch between playing the game with the DS4 and having some physical interaction with the items you’ve built. The LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack is all players need to begin – build the base and embark on a fantastic quest. Build the minifigure heroes and fire-up the game to start the experience, then follow the in-game build instructions to assemble the loose bricks into the LEGO® Gateway, and place the structure on the LEGO® Toy Pad. Completing objectives in the levels and adventure worlds will reward players with gold bricks, which can be used to upgrade vehicles and give them new abilities. All minifigures and vehicles can be used in any available level, though specific figures must be present to initially enter those levels or worlds.

Even before the game begins, there’s an air of anticipation and excitement as I build the three characters with my young daughter before plugging in the toy box portal for the first time. The fact that you now build LEGO characters that interact with the portal is bound to cause panic amongst parents who may have to shell out a small fortune for the additional LEGO sets, but it’s an ingenious move because it adds a whole new, enjoyable dimension to the LEGO formula. Expand the adventure by collecting more minifigures, vehicles, gadgets and new levels with the purchase of three different types of expansion packs. To save their friends, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle bravely jump into the vortex and quickly find themselves fighting to save all of LEGO humanity.That's the moment your inner child takes over and you realize this is probably gonna cost a lot of money. The three get pulled into the same vortex and appear on Vorton, where the vortex generator they came out of explodes, prompting them to rebuild it.
