About this deal

Manual of Egyptian Archaeology and Guide to the Study of Antiquities in Egypt: for the use of students and travellers by Sir G. On 29 November 1873, Amelia Edwards and her companion, Lucy Renshaw, arrived in Cairo, driven south from Europe by prolonged wet weather. As this print on demand book is reprinted from a very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible.

An extremely dense, Dickensian thick descriptive book about the author and others travelling on the Nile. I do not have words to address this ignorance of these observers are wealthy enough to hire a boat to travel the Nile for months ), in Asyoot "its inhabitants, who, instead of being sullen, thievish, and unfriendly, are too familiar to be pleasant, and the most unappeasable beggars out of Ireland. With the aims of advancing the Fund's work, Edwards largely abandoned her other literary work to concentrate solely on Egyptology. Levei mais tempo que o previsto para ler, a leitura foi muito interrompida pelas extensas notas de rodapé, e pelas belíssimas ilustrações, mas valeu cada segundo!

Rameses III, his sons and nobles, his armies, his foes, play once more the brief drama of life and death.

Edwards wrote several ghost stories, including "The Phantom Coach" (1864), which frequently appears in anthologies. Presenting an Exquisite Leather-Bound Edition, expertly crafted by the prestigious organization "Rare Biblio" with Original Natural Leather that gracefully adorns the spine and corners. She left an extensive library of Egyptology and a collection of Egyptian antiquities to University College, London along with 2500 pounds – British currency – to found the Edwards Chair of Egyptology. Edwards was an influential figure in nineteenth-century British Egyptology and A Thousand Miles Up the Nile is probably the best known British travel book on Egypt. The two women went on a pioneering journey of the Dolomites, a mountain range in northeastern Italy. The author also provides a wealth of information on the history and archaeology of ancient Egypt, and her descriptions of the monuments and artifacts she encountered are both informative and engaging.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -A Thousand Miles up the Nile is an unchanged, high-quality reprint of the original edition of 1890.Of course a large number of them were from the Egypt Exploration Fund (now Society) excavations, but there were many others. During the expedition, Edwards also sought works of Titian, finding a Madonna and Child in Serravalle (Vittorio Veneto) and two other paintings at a village church in Cadore. Edwards wrote this historical, egyptological, and cultural study in 1877, and it became an immediate best-seller, reprinted in 1888 at home in England and abroad.

Edwards further maintained important, close friendships with painter Marianne North (1830–1890), her travelling companion Lucy Renshaw (1833–1919) and her closest confidante during her later years, Kate Bradbury (later Griffith), who also became executrix of Edwards' will. Venturing to Wadi Halfa, Amelia spotted the site of future EES excavations at Buhen, though she found it unimpressive at the time. Yet so it is; and the time when these people can be brought to comprehend the most elementary principles of sanitary reform is yet far distant. Collections Manager Stephanie Boonstra discusses the decade of work conducted by the EES' Graeco-Roman Branch - and the hundreds of thousands of papyri they uncovered. Outlines of English history: from the Roman conquest to the present time: with observations on the progress of art, science and civilization and questions adapted to each paragraph: for the use of schools, c.Three of these (unlike any engraved in the works of Wilkinson or Rosellini) are here reproduced from his sketch made upon the spot.
