About this deal

This isn’t a Garmin problem, it’s the same for any optical sensor on the market and it’s not going to change anytime soon. The compass was impressively accurate, but the barometric altimeter needed constant calibration. Alex Evans / Immediate Media

The Garmin Fenix 6 is lighter than its predecessor, but still has a robust build (Image credit: TechRadar) This can be increased to 93 hours if one of the watch’s battery-saving modes is engaged and used with solar charging. Sport types Fixed an issue where the stress data field wasn't working as expected during Yoga and Breathwork activities. The biggest design upgrade, however, can be seen on the display, which is now 17% larger, jumping from a 1.2-inch, 240 x 240 resolution display to a larger 1.3-inch, 260 x 260 offering. While that doesn’t sound like much, it does mean that fitness information is displayed in a much more intuitive way than before as it can now show extra (customizable) data fields.

Long pushes of the buttons double up on functionality, helping to switch directly to certain menus or apps without needing to cycle through menus. Data include pace, and distance time information. – but also lap data, cadence, heart rate, zones, and more. It’s a top-running experience, but no different from top-end Forerunners as we’ve already mentioned. It is very much the kitchen-sink of multi-sport watches, which means most of it is total overkill if you’re just a runner, just a cyclist, just a swimmer or just looking for a long-lasting smartwatch. But if you do more than one thing, or like the idea of being able to jump out of an aeroplane in the middle of Europe and still find your way home, this is the watch for you. Fixed issue where Treadmill distance/pace would not record if watch was also connected to another nearby training device.

Fixed an issue where summary activities (sync’ed from another device) were showing up in the list of navigable activities. The Fenix 6 Pro Solar is much less dependent on your phone than most smartwatches; you don’t even need to pair a phone to set it up. Added support for Explore Navigation Sync, where one can select lines, waypoints or generic points on the map within the Explore app and start navigating on device. The Garmin Fenix range is the ultimate outdoor adventuring device. It’s for those who want to best sports watch money can buy.

Where to buy the Garmin Fenix 6

Fixed an issue where customers with high resting heart rate would intermittently not accrue intensity minutes. When trekking you also get the TOPO maps and the compass, to help navigate when you're out in the wild. More on those below. You can also swap between power modes mid-hike, so if you're getting low on battery you can put it into the gentler UltraTrac mode. Fenix 6S mapping If you’re a serious runner, swimmer, cyclist or generalist athlete looking to take your workout to the next level then the Fenix 6 Pro Solar is an excellent option. It’s got a chunky spherical case that’s built of a fibre-reinforced polymer with a metal rear cover. Up front you have a choice of ultra durable Stainless steel or Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coated titanium materials for the bezel. Added support for sport specific power zones. One can now setup their power zones for XC Ski separately from that of Cycling. (Menu > User Profile > Power Zones)
