About this deal

The only thing I wished was better is the string action out-of-the-box… It’s not bad, just that I like the action a little bit lower. As a ‘proper’ nylon strung beginner’s classical guitar, they don’t come much better than the Yamaha CG122MSH. Taylor is seeing some great successes from its Academy line, which promises the full-fat Taylor experience at a cost that makes them – at least relatively – affordable for the many. The sound is decent enough, although not as powerful as an all solid wood handmade guitar can deliver.

Its neck is made out of African mahogany with a thin gloss finish, plus the Indian rosewood bridge and fingerboard. On the other hand, steel-string guitars are perfect for jazz, acoustic blues/rock, folk, pop, bluegrass and percussive fingerstyle. If you are looking for the perfect classical guitar (without spending a lot of money), here we have a list with our preferences, specially for those beginners and intermediate players. Generally, these guitars are better made with improved volume and response than beginner guitar models. If you want to get the basics of what strings to fix on your guitar, read my 5-Step Guide to Perfect Strings. Adults with small hands (as also older children up to the age of 12 years) may find the three-fourths’ size CGS103A a good option. Some people prefer the brighter, more projecting sound of a spruce top while others like the warm and mellow sound of a cedar top.

It’s even collapsable, with the body of the guitar breaking down making it one of the best classical guitars for travelling with. The solid Engelmann spruce top gives the tone a depth and richness which sounds amazing, while the full 2-inch nut width gives you the proper classical playing experience.I know of a guitar teacher who recommends the CG142 to his early stage students instead of going for a cheaper ’student’ guitar.

The body doesn’t have any cutaways, but the 18 frets are more than enough to provide a good classical guitar sound. Not holding tuning well is a common issue with lower-end guitars, but you shouldn’t have any tuning issues with the Yamaha C40II. The model comes installed with the premium quality Savarez Cristal Corum strings in high tension (500CJ). Kremona is set in Bulgaria since 1924, achieving a great reputation due to its affordable and excellent classical guitars. One reason Yamaha has been a trusted name in guitars because they combine the best of old school methods with new technology for manufacturing.Out of all the products I reviewed, the best pick is the Yamaha FG800, while you can go for the C40II if it’s a nylon-string guitar that you want. While the technique of playing a nylon-strung guitar is slightly different from a steel-strung one, the skills are most definitely transferable.
