About this deal

The first rows of the blanket are knit in garter stitch, then you will move into the broken rib stitch. I am trying to make a pair of mittens top-down with this stitch but am unsure of the best method for increasing/decreasing with this double knit fabric stitch. Whether you’re picking up the hook for the first time or the 100th time, there’s always something new to learn. I used 12 skeins of the Yarn Art Alpine Alpaca at 150g each, totalling 1800g, so you would need half of that total amount at around 900g. I launched my business after re-learning how to knit (having taken a brief 20 year hiatus) and realised there was limited tools for beginner knitters.

If the Rico yarn you want is 109 yards per 100g then you would need around 15 skiens for the project. This project also makes a great yarn stash buster giving you the versatility to play around with the colours and layout. This blog post is packed full of stitch inspiration for blankets from beginner friendly to intimidate stitches so I think I have you covered for all skill levels. It helps if you place a marker at the joining point so you don’t lose track of where the round begins and ends. As for the amount of yarn – you would need more because of the yarn weight and needles if you want it to be as large as the blanket in the photos.

Don’t be afraid to just have a go, the worst thing that will happen is that you’ll learn how NOT to do something! This yarn is super bulky/super chunky/18-20-ply and I knit with two strands togetherfor the blanket. Hello Shirley, You could try using 1 strand of yarn for the blanket but using the 25mm (US 50) needles – I think the knitted fabric will be very lacey and not thick enough. Not only do they look amazing, but the extra weight behind the stitch means the fabric is soft, squishy and super warm.
