Deleted Scenes (SD, Disc 2, 21 minutes) – Deleted scenes from episodes 'No Exit,' 'Deadlock,' and 'Someone to Watch Over Me. However, what you may not be able to tell from the screenshots posted here is that the widescreen version is actually a pretty good depiction of how the series looked on television – or, at the very least, - how it appeared in the 2003 DVD rendition, as well as VHS releases and syndication airings. Larson's campy 1978 sci-fi classic 'Battlestar Galactica' by giving it an extreme makeover for the new millennium. If you aren't already sitting down as you're reading this review, now would be a good time to pull up a chair. The final result is what Time Magazine and countless others (myself included) hail as one of the best dramas on television. Universal's clunky packaging may convince some to hold out for the more compact individual seasons inevitably down the road, but 'Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series' remains a top-tier release of 2009 and easily comes highly frakkin' recommended. But it isn’t only the Cylons that shadow them across the universe but their own human weaknesses and failings, which ultimately stand between themselves and the salvation of the human race. Although it would have been nice to get a brand-new commentary from the actors, this is still a fun listen and still one of the highlights of the provided bonus materials. discs of high definition science fiction genius: Battlestar Galactica arrives, in its entirety, on Blu-ray.

Change is Good, Now They're Babes (SD, 8 minutes) – A short little piece covering Boomer's and Starbuck's sex change and a look at some of the other major female characters in the series. While there's still plenty of 'cheese' to be found in the episodes on this release, I was amazed at how well some of them hold up, and how good some of the acting was – particularly on the original first season. Both come across as relatively crisp and clear, and while there's nothing outstanding about either version of the tracks, there are no obvious glitches or dropouts, either. Film grain is present and perhaps a little more evident that it should be, given the zooming in on the original frame (or at least making an area of the image larger than intended) that is a necessity here. In an effort to bring the series back for a second season but cut down on the budget, the decision was made to allow Galactica to discover Earth, which would mean far fewer episodes requiring extensive special effects. In terms of glitches, both the widescreen and full frame versions still contain a lot of dirt and debris on the print, even though according to the bonus materials on this release damaged frames have been repaired (so why not repair all of the problems?

Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Blu-ray Review

The Blu-ray release of Battlestar Galactica accurately preserves the artistic intentions of the creators. The first of these new marvels we meet is the seductive temptress Number Six (Tricia Helfer), who uses her perfectly crafted body to blend in and get what she wants. In my opinion, the full frame versions are more oversaturated than they should be, particularly when it comes to reds and pinks, which don't quite bleed, but come close to it. While this set has its problems and doesn't really impress with its bonus materials (the majority of which are just ported over from the earlier DVD release), the fact that Universal took the time to remaster 'Battlestar Galactica' at all is surprising, and this set gives viewers a fresh widescreen look to a beloved classic series (and its not-so-beloved 'sequel' series). Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection' launches onto Blu-ray in a pair standard Elite keepcases, both of which slide inside a study black and silver cardboard slipcase. Extended Episode: 'A Disquiet Follows My Soul' (HD, Disc 1) – The unrated extended version of this episode. Surround steering is somewhat limited, but ambience is well catered for; everything on Galactica seems to be accompanied by a low hum representing the ships own heart beat - sounds especially convincing when she is groaning at the end of her life.

The widescreen version of the original series consists of six 50GB Blu-rays, four of which are held on a pair of pastic hubs inside its case. However, it does give a nice behind-the-scenes look at how the series was updated to widescreen for the 'next generation' of viewers. While this set has its problems and doesn't really impress with its bonus materials (the majority of which are just ported over from the earlier DVD release), the fact that Universal took the time to remaster 'Battlestar Galactica' at all is surprising, and this set gives viewers the option of watching two very different looking presentations of each of the series' episodes. The original series had its charms, but it didn’t try to deliver anything approaching the depth of each character’s personal struggle or tangential plot direction changes as portrayed here. The picture has been treated with artificial grain to maintain the grittiness and grimy feel, but the image is much tighter -- especially in the fine details of facial features and the outer hulls of ships. The only person who seems to be unable to let his guard down is Commander Bill Adama (Edward James Olmos) of the warship Battlestar Galactica.
