Agatha Christie’s world-famous novel has been adapted for the stage for the first time in Europe by multi award-winning Ken Ludwig, whose previous Tony Award-winning productions include Crazy For You and Lend Me A Tenor. There will be three murders to solve in the 2022 Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham. On a less positive note, I found myself repelled at times by the sheer unpleasantness of the characters. Jake, for example—who I concede has legitimate reasons for disliking his absent father—doesn’t reveal any tenderness or vulnerability to temper his youthful angst. Similarly, twentysomething Anna is mostly defined by her obsession with mobile phone reception. ONCE nights start to draw in, York Theatre Royal will fill its stage with spirits and shadows in The Haunted Season from September 9. This coming weekend sees the celebration of London’s West End theatre ‘ West End Live‘ which coincides with the 350th anniversary of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. In 1663, the Theatre Royal opened in London, under the reign of Charles II. The Theatre Royal has had an incredible history of on stage performances which have starred and been attended by many famous people. But did you know about the equally dramatic off stage performance involving the assassination attempt on Mad King George III from a man in the audience in 1800 who also thought that he was King George III? but since almost every character is described in this way : age, height, hair etc it becomes tedious.

He was taken to prison again after that where he smashed a water jug and proceeded to cut his feet with it to ‘purge away his sins’ whilst claiming he was the ‘Supreme Being’. After some time, he got well again and escaped to Calais, where he then took a boat to Dover, arriving in London in September 1795. There’s also the gentle fun of one of Agatha Christie's finest stage plays, Spider's Web, and the classic ‘will he get away with it?’ from Emlyn Williams, Night Must Fall. Summer just wouldn't be summer without a classic thriller.”Crimes on Centre Court is a deuce of a show! It’s the funniest, most uplifting performance you could possibly go and see right now.”– Western Daily Press To complete the line-up is Joan’s extra-marital partner Don, a hilarious character played by Stephen Fletcher. David Callister and Susan Earnshaw are well cast as Nigel Forbes and Maxine Goodman, one a bumptious extrovert who thinks it is time to end their writing partnership, the other an irrational bundle of energy who is easily led.

On October 11 and 12, English Touring Opera will return to the Theatre Royal with Handel’s Amadigi, based on a chivalric romance about three young people imprisoned by a sorceress.Andrew Ryan who directs is a veteran of 31 pantos and brings out all the humour of the play without sacrificing tension. In the home of the restless ghost of the Grey Lady, world premieres by Emma Rice, Matthew Bourne and Tonderai Munyevu will be complemented by scary appearances by horror favourites Dracula, The Hound Of the Baskervilles and the Headless Horseman. I was excited to read this book - I enjoy a good cosy crime and love 'period' stories. The cover is also very good and the title straight forward and telling it as it is. And I was not disappointed with the plot. There were several red herrings and plot twists and the story has a feisty female lead who has something to prove and her work cut out to get things right.

Murder - York Theatre Royal Cast Announced for the Thriller: Murder - York Theatre Royal

Written by Brian Clemens and Dennis Spooner, All about Murder takes place in the writing studio at the Oxfordshire country home of Nigel Forbes, played by David Callister. Crimes on Centre Court, based on a story from the award winning podcast (#2 in iTunes fiction chart), toured to great acclaim in 2021 and is an ace of a show which you’re sure to (fifteen) love. This deucey treat will rally the spirits and leave you wanting a second serve-ing of the volley of gags and visual delights. You won’t see it game set and matched anywhere else. New Old Friends have built a national reputation with their wildly inventive set pieces, twisty plots and commitment to unadulterated entertainment. From October 19 to 23, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective story The Hound Of The Baskervilles will be given a humorous overhaul in a Lotte Wakeham production where farce collides with theatrical invention and comic performances. Director Philip Franks said, “Horror films have been my guilty pleasure since I was a morbid child. Now is the time to find out whether many years’ worth of jump scares and terrible nightmares can be put to good use. We’ll also see whether my more adult theory – that horror often puts its finger on what worries us most as a society at any given time – will also hold true.“I am sorry that, to me, this reads like an over elaborate creative writing exercise. Or maybe an attempt at parody. I do think some readers will enjoy it. But not for me, disappointingly. The book has all the hallmarks of an excellent story. The theatre world in particular, lends itself to colourful characters, secrets and intrigue. I was also drawn to the beautiful book cover and the fact it was labelled “A Christmas Mystery”, looking forward to a seasonal escape from reality. There were times during the performance when couples in the audience turned their heads from the stage to grin at each other as they identified with quarrels taking place on stage. I’m no new arrival to the classic mysteries of Agatha Christie and yet I still loved this wonderful version of an absolute classic. There are strong cameos from Susie Hawthorne as alcoholic Ann, who is able to show several stages of drunkenness despite being on stage for only a short time, and Anna Mitcham, Nigel’s attractive secretary whose loyalty means she goes far beyond her job description.
