About this deal

In summary, this is an inspirational and fun book to read. Brian Cox is one of my favorite science personalities and his books reflect his warm, engaging personality. However, this is not his best effort. This book though very good does not live to the standards of some of his previous outstanding books like Wonders of the Universe. That aside, this is an excellent complementary piece to the documentary series of the same name and is worth your time. I recommend it. This was an amazing read. Brian Cox has a way of mingling mind-bending physics with his own brand of down-to-earth humor which results in a really entertaining read. I'm not a scientists by any stretch of the imagination, but the topics discussed in this book, from the moments before the Big Bang to 'Why are we here?' are explained and discussed in such a way, that anyone can follow the theories and enjoy discovering new science.

You are the Universe: Discovering Your Cosmic Self and Why it Matters (2017) by Deepak Chopra and Menas Kafatos is a non-fiction book attempting to reconcile the spiritual and the metaphysical with the scientific. Human Universe was commissioned by Janice Hadlow for BBC Two and Kim Shillinglaw, head commissioner for science and natural history. [4] The series consists of five sixty-minute episodes. [4] [5] International broadcast [ edit ] In summary, I loved this read. I learned a plethora of new vocabulary directly related to my favorite topic. I found deep confirmation which complemented my knowledge set.

Excellent, easy-to-follow format. Each section begins with a big philosophical question followed up by bite-size supporting topics.

Accelerating then, through our ancestors, with bigger and bigger brains – increases that coincided with periods when the Earth’s orbit was at its most elliptical and the climate most volatile. Ah, you see it’s impossible to separate us from the cosmos, we’re all tied up together and it all comes down to physics in the end. He does manage to find a very big number, too, in his own head, and yours: 80bn neurons in our brains.

The book explores,at least for me,two very interesting points :the fine tuning and the improbability of emergence of a technological civilization ,and so solving the Fermi Paradox, and I personally believe that it success in the explanations and reasonings What is a human being? Objectively, nothing of consequence. Particles of dust in an infinite arena, present for an instant in eternity. Clumps of atoms in a universe with more galaxies than people. And yet a human being is necessary for the question itself to exist, and the presence of a question in the universe – any question – is the most wonderful thing.

The title might be a bit misleading - for the most part, this book is about quantum physics and other branches of science. But what is interesting is the fact that the authors make very unique and bold conclusions about the scientific research. Some might call it esoteric or maybe some far-fetched bullshit, but for me, it sounded like a possibility. In fact, it sounded much like what I have imagined might actually be true about the universe and our reality. It also sounded a lot like something some religions might preach, or some people on psychedelics, or people practicing mindfulness and yoga and leading a deeply self-reflexion oriented lifestyle. Basically, it sounded like a conclusion many people can reach by VERY different roads and processes.Great examples where science clashed with religion, handled with the utmost respect and care. “Catholic dogma asserted that the Moon and the other heavenly bodies were perfect, unblemished spheres. Previous astronomers who had viewed the Moon, either with the naked eye or through telescopes, had drawn a two-dimensional blotchy surface, but Galileo saw the patterns of light and dark differently. His training in chiaroscuro revealed to him an alien lunar landscape of mountain ranges and craters.”

This book asks questions about our origins, our destiny, and our place in the universe. We have no right to expect answers; we have no right to even ask. But ask and wonder we do. The science method applied. “It is scientific only to say what is more likely and what less likely, and not to be proving all the time the possible and impossible.” You might think being a devotee of the teachings of the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita, it would be a no-brainer that I would love this newest offering from Deepak Chopra. However, I was frustrated and disappointed by 'You are the Universe', even though I agree with the underlying principles. Whether we know it or not, we are, in effect, active actors in a play we are creating and co-creating and the Universe responds to our thoughts, emotions, and physical actions—not too dissimilar to karma, if you will. One gets the impression that the expansion of the TV format fell apart here because Cox wanted to lobby for investment in the asteroid impact space programme. This is where the bulk of the irritating posturing noted in the first paragraph appears.Chopra’s medical training is in internal medicine and endocrinology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Dr. Chopra serves as Co-Founder and Chairman of The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, Founder of The Chopra Well on YouTube, Adjunct Professor of Executive Programs at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Adjunct Professor at Columbia Business School, Columbia University, Assistant Clinical Professor, in the Family and Preventive Medicine Department at the University of California, San Diego, Health Sciences, Faculty at Walt Disney Imagineering, and Senior Scientist with The Gallup Organization.
