About this deal

One thing I find particularly interesting about the Mercenaries is the fact that the Cadre of the Raven’s Veil isn’t mentioned in the rules portion of the Quest Book, nor is it a part of the story at the beginning, during Mentor’s message. Hopefully the Cadre becomes a bigger part of the story during the quests. Alchemy & Potions The first Specter will cast Channel Dread on the Rogue Heir. There is 1 monster next to the Specter, so we’ll add 1 to the roll of 1, making that 2. The Rogue Heir is safe for now. The Specter will float through the bookshelf to safety on the other side. A trailer was also released via the Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel on July 14, 2023, which was narrated by HeroQuest designer Stephen Baker (playing the character Mentor). The dramatic story of treachery and unrest in the elven kingdom continues in this HeroQuest Rise of the Dread Moon expansion! As a brave knight, you’re challenged to finally free Elethorn from the clutches of Zargorn. Embark on dangerous quests, as you seek the aid of the Cadre of the Raven's Veil to help stop Zargorn's forces of Dread from destroying the kingdom. Navigate through a dark labyrinth of waterways, an underground city, and more perilous locations. But be wary—for Zargon's forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon!

No longer able to see the Heroes, the Wraith further retreats, biding it’s time, waiting for the Heroes to come to it. That encounter seemed fairly typical. It went a lot better than the Wraith battle. The Assassin is quite the formidable foe, but against seasoned Heroes, shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Rise of the Dread Moon marks the conclusion of a broader storyline introduced in The Mage of the Mirror, HeroQuest’s first major expansion following its official relaunch in 2020. From the official description: “As a brave knight, you're challenged to finally free Elethorn from the clutches of Zargon. Embark on dangerous quests, as you seek the aid of the Cadre of the Raven's Veil to help stop Zargon's forces of Dread from destroying the kingdom. Navigate through a dark labyrinth of waterways, an underground city, and more perilous locations. But be wary—for Zargon's forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon!” Thanks to the efforts of a very dedicated fan on the HeroQuestFans Discord server, Eudoxio, they were able to get us a closer look at this image by running it through some up-scaling software to extrapolate some of the blurred out features.Well, nobody died… this time. They did come out a little worse for wear though. The Barbarian lost half his Body Points, and the Wizard lost a spell that could have been useful later on it the quest. I want to thank the Avalon Hill team for their hard work and dedication to the fans and the franchise. Keep up the great work! We are really looking forward to what the future holds for HeroQuest! First off, in this post we finally get an official size for the Barbarian. He’s 6’7″, that’s huge! No wonder he plows through goblins like they’re not even there! Crafting can only happen at specific times. In between quests, or in the presence of an Alchemist’s Bench. This is interesting, now furniture finally has a purpose other than just sitting there, looking pretty. Don’t get me wrong, it still looks pretty, but it’s nice to have some interaction now.

Alright, I’m sorry you had to sit through all that, now for the part I’m most excited about. How do the Heroes stand up to the new enemies! As I don’t have my copy of the game yet, I’ll be using some stand-ins for the monsters. The value of some potion reagents has fluctuated in this war-torn economy, so you may see some changes to the gold coin value of some of our potions. Side A: 8 Lunar tokens (front), 6 caltrops, 2 trap doors, 4 disguises, 2 mirrors, 4 mercenaries, 1 elf assassin, 1x "5" reputation token, 6 "shield" reputation tokens (front), 1 "plaza" tile (5x6 room)Knight (same as Hero Collection Guardian Knight) * so right now you can play as him in the Companion App even before the update! Maybe this encounter want as difficult as I had initially thought after the first round. I’ll need to try it out a few more times and with different configurations of enemies.

The final Assassin stands, staring down the Barbarian and the Guardian Knight. The Barbarian lunges forward, but the blow glances off the Assassins blade. The Guardian Knight leaps forward, blade connecting, but not enough to fatally wound the Assassin. The Wizard, come out of his daze, a vengeful cry from his lips, unleashes a Genie at the Assassin. The Genie tears through its target, leaving nothing behind. Important Note: I realized after playing through this scenario that I misread the Channel Dread spell. The caster only gets the perk from adjacent monsters IF the adjacent monster is also capable of casting this spell. This actually makes the spell far less useful if there are fewer Specters on the board. So, this new minion of Zargon has a sword, a shield, and the power to cast Ball of Flame, and Tempest once per quest. Once a group tears through the quest book, the expansion’s mechanics can be added to the HeroQuest core experience and replayed as they fancy. Players can also design their own scenarios and connected adventures using the new miniatures, cards and terrain tiles in addition to everything that comes in the base box. Poison! (FH, text is re-arranged and simplified but same basic description, identical mechanic and artwork)

First released in 1989 as a joint venture between Games Workshop and Milton Bradley, HeroQuest is arguably one of the most influential board games in the hobby. Its design and structure helped clear the way for an entire ecosystem of similar titles. The decades since found HeroQuest as a hard-to-find collector’s item until Hasbro and Avalon Hill crowdfunded a new edition in 2020. The Rise of Dread Moon expansion features 10 quests, as well as full-color tiles and 58 game cards, set in an elven world of monsters, traps, treasure, and Dread Moon spells I think there is already going to be a lot of plastic in this expansion. There’s the new Knight, Several new Elven characters, possible Cultists or Wizard type enemies, and we can’t forget Sir Ragnar. I doubt they’ll include more than one sculpt for the Specter. Any named specters, we’ll probably still have to use the Dread Sorcerer! For the Dread Wraith, I’ve got an Air Elemental. The actual mini appears to take up 2 spaces, I’ll try to emulate this as best as possible, my Air Elemental takes up 4 spaces, similar to The Frozen Horror. The Dread Cultist will be subbed in for my Crimson Courtiers from Altar Quest. For the Assassin, I’ll be using the Cutpurse, also from Altar Quest. Playtest #1: Dread Wraith, Cultist, & Specters

Immerse yourself in the adventure with 10 daring quests, stunning artwork, 29 detailed miniatures, and full-color tiles. (Requires HeroQuest Game System to play. Sold separately.) This fantasy game for adults and teens has limitless replayability, and you can also create your own quests and stories. Gather friends together for an exciting night of tabletop gameplay in a battle of good and evil. The game is for 2-5 players, ages 14+. Yesterday the Prequel Quest "Knightfall" was posted online. This is the one that has all those sold out GenCon sessions. It is being recommended to play first, but as many have pointed out, it seems worded towards beginner players, and yet at the same time doesn't serve to fully equip a team of basic heroes for the beginning of ROTDM (which has a difficulty comparable to KK/ROTWL or Prophecy of Telor/Spirit Queen's Torment, at first glance).I am now thoroughly convinced that, as HeroQuest Superfans, the Avalon Hill HeroQuest team are now just making their own homebrews official! Why wouldn’t they!? If I was a designer, working on HeroQuest, I would probably do that too!
