About this deal

QuizUp is a free mobile app that allows players to compete against friends or strangers in real-time trivia matches. With over 1,200 topics and 600,000 questions, QuizUp offers a virtually endless supply of trivia challenges. Additionally, the app’s social features enable players to chat with opponents, join discussion boards, and even create custom quizzes. The questions are spread across the same categories found in the board game (Geography, Science & Nature, Entertainment, History, Sport & Leisure, and Art & Literature) so there’s plenty of variety that suits different players’ specialities, whilst it’s also possible to play in a more family-friendly mode to suit younger players. As mentioned, I’ve put a good few hours in now and haven’t seen questions repeating at all yet, so there’s plenty on offer to ensure each game feels fresh. Today, we’re considering the latter of those two, with this round-up of the best trivia games for a fun evening with friends. Trivial Pursuit There is no official version of Trivial Pursuit available on Steam from either Ubisoft of Hasbro Games. That does not, however, mean that the platform is without at least one adaptation of Trivial Pursuit, you just have go a roundabout way to get there. Find Tabletop Simulator on Steam

Since the game is free, it comes with in-app ads. If that gets too annoying, you can pay to remove them. Popcorn Trivia Trivial Pursuit is an established brand and as a result, it is fair to expect that it would have a robust presence in the digital market. This, however, is simply not the case. There is basically nothing available for those looking to play on the PC with the feel of an actual game of Trivial Pursuit, while there is nothing at all available on phones or tablets. For each of these, we recommend setting up a group FaceTime call, Google Hangout, or Zoom session if you have a paid account. (Note that free Zoom calls cut off after 40 minutes, which you probably already know by now — but our team has found that a lot of calls get “free gift” notifications with additional free minutes. Thanks, Zoom!).Trivial Pursuit has unmatched gameplay that we all know and love. The best way to play is to gather with friends and family and whip out that good old game board. However, sometimes you want to play, but don’t really feel like getting up and playing with others. In that case, there is always the option of playing online! First introduced to the world in 1981, Trivial Pursuit has been a staple of game nights for decades, offering a wide range of categories and questions to challenge players’ knowledge. The game now includes endless editions, such as the Classic Edition, Family Edition, and themed versions like Friends, Star Wars or Harry Potter, ensuring there’s a Trivial Pursuit for everyone. We love our game nights with friends, and cancelling those has been a sad part of the quarantine for us. But we’ve found 6 great games you can play over FaceTime or Zoom. It helps make that distance feel not so far at all, and gives you more opportunities to connect with friends, cousins, and grandparents after dinner. Though Trivial Pursuit has been unsuccessful with the digital format just yet, some attempts are worth mentioning. Here is a brief overview of some Trivial Pursuit apps and video games that opened up the door for digital trivia. Shuffle Trivial Pursuit

This version of the game is basically the same as the one mentioned above. The main difference is that it was released in 2018 due to the Switch being a later condole release than the PS4 and Xbox One. Like the other versions, however, there seem to be some issues with online play, meaning that it is much more fun as a couch play type of game with friends and family in the same room. Adapted difficulty levels and catch up rounds mean that the trivia buff in the family won’t be running away with this version of the game as can sometimes happen in the original board game. This makes for a much more rewarding gameplay experience for everyone involved. Trivial Pursuit SteamThe “Blitz” mode allowed users to compete with three other players in real-time. You could also chat with players and create your own questions and test others. Each player was given three lives per three hours. Users were invited to pay for extra lives, but that was not a popular feature. The only version of Trivial Pursuit that is available to play online on a PC without buying software at this point is the Trivial Pursuit Genus Edition from Zylom Games. This is a subscription-based service with thousands of games to choose from across all genres, with Trivial Pursuit being one of them. The game features three modes – one of them being a local multiplayer – and has over 2,000 questions localized to the country that the player is playing in. The Solitaire mode is about as close as you can get to the board game version of Trivial Pursuit in the digital space from a licensed game, though one major difference to account for the limitations of a PC is that every question is multiple choice. Trivial Pursuit Tap

Wits & Wagers adds a unique twist to traditional trivia games by incorporating elements of gambling and strategy. Players answer questions and then bet on whose answer is closest to the correct one, even if it’s not their own. This game mechanic encourages friendly competition and strategic thinking, as players must weigh the risks and rewards of each wager. The game is perfect for groups of friends or family members who enjoy a good challenge and some lighthearted taking of punts.

Christmas Cards & Gift Wrap

Players earn wedges by hitting certain point thresholds during each game, with points awarded for answering questions correctly. The final round is a lot more generous at handing out wedges though, with players rewarded with one if they manage to get all five questions of a specific topic correct; this might seem challenging, but it’s a multiple choice with just two answers on offer, so you’ve got a 50% chance of getting a question right even by guessing. Unfortunately, Trivial Pursuit has yet to give us a worthy smartphone app that will stay around for a while. Though the brand has been unsuccessful in the digital realm yet, we can only assume that something good is in the works. Nobody knows how long we must wait, but I believe that Trivial Pursuit will eventually be available on all Android and iOS devices. And in the meantime, we have a few worthy alternatives. One of the most popular features of Sporcle is its timed quizzes. Players have a set amount of time to answer a certain number of questions, and the faster they answer correctly, the more points they receive. This adds an element of excitement and competition to the game, and encourages players to study and improve their knowledge in specific areas. View leaderboards to see where you are among your competitors. The questions come in three different formats: multiple-choice, true or false, and identification questions.

Trivia Question: During one of the Christmas episodes, Ross entertains his son Ben by dressing up as…? Cranium combines elements of trivia, wordplay, and performance, providing a diverse and entertaining experience for players. Participants team up and complete various challenges, such as answering trivia questions, sculpting objects from clay, or humming tunes for teammates to guess. Anyone who has looked in the game aisle for this game will know there are a ton of different editions. From Trivial Pursuit editions that are specific to a movie, TV show, or generation to high-tech versions, there are a lot to choose from. How are you supposed to know which one to buy for your next game night?Trivia Question: Who puts on their resume that they can drink a gallon of milk in under 10 seconds? Cranium’s blend of creative tasks and trivia makes it an excellent choice for groups with varying interests and skill sets. Players can choose from different versions of the game, such as Cranium Family Edition or Cranium Dark, to cater to their preferences. In the Family Edition, the challenges are more geared towards children and families, encouraging some great bonding time, while the Dark edition involves more challenging and mature tasks (sounds a little sinister, maybe?). Unfortunately, the app was not as successful as the brand thought. It did not survive and is no longer available on smartphones and tablets. Trivial Pursuit & Friends Screentime Adaptation: As with regular play, each person playing needs their own tablet or phone with the app installed. The only change is, that if you add in a Zoom conference or Group FaceTime, then you can see each other’s faces as you laugh hysterically at the answers — and realize who the best bluffers in the family are. It’s that much more fun to have the other players “in the room” with you. You can choose from a wide variety of categories to play in. The categories range from general knowledge, animals, and other broad subjects, to Harry Potter, How I Met Your Mother, and more niche subjects.
