Jamie Carragher lauds 22-year-old Chelsea star for stepping up to show 'captain-like authority' against his team-mate and 'seasoned professional Sterling'

It wasn’t so much that I ignored the naysayers, it’s more that I didn’t really hear them. When they said I was too small, it went in one ear, out the other. I suppose you’d call that focus. This documentary shows never-before-seen footage of each of his challenges and an exclusive first chat with him after getting his new role in the England coaching team, as well as more intimate moments with his friends, family and hundreds of supporters as he runs through towns and cities across the UK. The programme also features some of the people living with MND who have been helped and supported by his work.Reading and literacy are so important. But the kids keep us busy and there’s never a dull moment, is there, Rob? I’d much rather that than feeling sorry for myself. Jose Mourinho is SENT OFF for goading Monza's bench and labelling them cry babies after Stephan El Shaarawy scores Roma's late winner It's a blatent cliche, but this is a sporting story that is a tale of two halves. Rob Burrow tells his story of twice playing the underdog to become an unlikely Rugby League star and then in his fight against MND not long after his retirement. He approaches both with a strong willed determination that you cannot help but find inspiring. Rob and Kevin won eight Super League titles in fourteen years with Rugby League’s Leeds Rhinos. However, it is the story of their enduring friendship that has captured the heart of the nation. In 2019 Rob received a devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease and, since then, his inspiring determination to shine a spotlight on the illness and Kevin’s tireless fundraising for the MND community, has given hope to others who are suffering. Burrow ends by looking to the future with optimism, knowing he will lose his battle with MND but that he will live life to the fullest until then. He gives a really powerful message for everyone to enjoy every day and live for every moment.

But my suffering as a fan is small potatoes compared to what Rob Burrow and his family have faced through the last couple of years. I think it says a lot about the rugby league community that despite our team rivalries, we'll always look after our own when it comes down to it. Rob mentions that so many fans of other teams have gone on to pass on their well-wishes, give him money, even do their own ridiculous challenges to raise awareness for his cause. We then get a detailed journey through the highs and lows of Burrow's career including the many trophies and awards he earned as well as some revelations I wasn't aware of such as his poor relationship with former Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott and how close Burrow was to joining Wigan or Castleford. A tough and humbling read. A quote from this book, from Rob Burrow's Dad, that I loved, "wherever there is hope, there's potential, and what sounds like science fiction one day is humdrum the next". I'm keeping this. Rob Burrow can no longer talk and yet, on a rainy bank holiday evening at home in Pontefract, he answers another of my questions about life and death. It feels almost magical as his familiar Yorkshire voice fills the room even though Burrow is smiling gently rather than moving his lips. “I don’t think you ever know your inner strength until you get told you are dying,” says the former Leeds Rhinos rugby league international who is a prisoner in his own body. “I would never have known I could be this positive when getting the news.” You could not put into words how grateful I am to have met Lindsey. I’m trying not to be soppy but some of the things Lindsey does for me is proof that I have found my one and only. No one deserves to have their world turned upside down. Yet she turns up every morning with a smile on her face knowing what the day ahead looks like, knowing I need help with every single thing.
