About this deal

In terms of your yeast question, these days dry yeast typically doesn't need to be activated in lukewarm water and you can add it in with the flour, but if you prefer to activate your dry yeast in lukewarm water, I would deduct the amount of liquid you use to activate the yeast from the total amount of liquid called for in the recipe, omit the added sugar (which isn't really necessary), and allow the yeast time to foam up. Once the yeast foams, you can add it to the other dough ingredients and it will still contribute to your dough rising. BUT I think I would like to add 1 cup of unbleached flour for some help with gluten...do you think it will work...OR be a gloopy mess? I AM not a baker and I love this blend it has worked okin all the other recipes I have used with it... Thanks Elaine in SC In days gone by there was a significant difference between active dry yeast and instant yeast. Today, the difference is minimal, and the two can be used interchangeably—with slightly different results. Let's look at ADY first. How Much Yeast In A Packet - Bake It With Love

First, I wouldn't recommend changing the amount of yeast in the recipe you follow if you are a beginner baker. In days gone by there was a significant difference between active dry yeast and instant yeast. Today, the difference is minimal, and the two can be used interchangeably — with slightly different results. Let’s look at active dry yeast first. SAF Gold is best used in sweet breads; for “lean” doughs (low in sugar and fat), SAF generally recommends red-label yeast. What’s fresh yeast? Starting with the long side, roll the dough up jelly roll-style. Work slowly and carefully here. Once rolled up, pinch the long seam to seal it up. You don’t want your rolls unwinding. Step 6: Slice into individual rollsThese days, active dry yeast is manufactured using a much gentler process, resulting in many more live cells. Thus, it’s no longer necessary to dissolve active dry yeast in warm water before using — feel free to mix it with the dry ingredients, just as you do instant yeast. One caveat: In dough that’s high in sugar (generally, more than 1/4 cup sugar per 3 cups of flour), the sugar evens things out, and instant yeast and active dry yeast will perform the same. (For very sweet breads, you might want to consider using SAF Gold Instant Yeast; for more on that, read below.) Can I use active dry and instant yeasts interchangeably?

We chatted with OBGYNs to find out the safest home remedies for yeast infections, and all your other burning (sorry) questions about yeast infection treatments, what you should actually buy, what you shouldn’t waste your money on, and how to prevent a yeast infection from recurring. Important stuff. Just remember: the less yeast, the longer the rising time (and/or the warmer the rising temperature). Start by cutting the yeast in your recipe by 50 percent and if the results are reasonable, lower the amount even more next time. I think you'll be happily surprised at just how far you can make a little bit of yeast go.The yeast is considered active if the foamy yeast mixture has risen to the 1 cup mark and has a rounded top.
