About this deal

Without the Pod, the Go 3 is as basic as it gets. The camera module has a single button that, by default, starts a recording. You can swap its default capture mode via the camera menu (accessible via the Action Pod's screen) or require a double press to minimize accidental recordings. A red tally lamp on the Go 3 flashes when it's rolling footage. For those familiar with Insta360's previous version of the Go camera, the big difference with the latest model is the introduction of the Action Pod. Part LCD monitor, part settings dashboard, part recharge station, I like that the Go 3 can record on its own without the housing, but if you're low on battery, you can slap the camera on the Action Pod for up to two hours of additional recording. And seeing as the Go 3 only sports a 320mAh battery, the Action Pod is pretty much a must-have for vlogging and any longer excursions. The real meat and potatoes of the Go 3 is its video capabilities. When the camera is set to Video mode, you'll see a readout on the bottom left-hand corner of the Action Pod LCD that shows what aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate, and stabilization level the Go 3 will record at. Tap this banner to head into the settings dashboard for these four items. (You can also swipe up from the bottom of the touchscreen to bring up this menu).

Insta360 Go 3 Action Camera (128GB)

This tough aluminium flight case has a well-padded interior allowing your Insta360 GO 3 to fit snuggly into the case, providing additional protection to your action camera when you’re on the move. The ActionPod and Go 3 are a huge step up from the Go 2, adding loads of functionality and making the whole experience more intuitive The Go 3 camera is charged via the Action Pod, and the Action Pod is charged via the USB Type-C connector. It supports QC and PD fast charging. Max charging power is around 10-11W. It takes just over an hour to fully charge it. The red indicator lights up when it’s charging and it turns off when it’s charged. We had the screen at full brightness because we were working outdoors, but still this is a Y-series chip and should absolutely have longer battery life. One of the main selling points of this series of Intel processors is its power efficiency, so we simply cannot wrap our heads around why the battery life is so bad here – and it’s not a Windows 11 thing because the other Surface devices last much longer. Before I even cover image quality, I have to commend Insta360 for making a wireless controller that works so reliably. Having the small Action Pod to hand and seeing what the Go 3 was recording, even when it was out of eyeshot, was incredibly liberating. Yes, wireless control has been available via the smartphone app for a while, but the Action Pod's compact size made it feel much less clunky than navigating the Insta360 app when filming. The FreeFrame capture is great for social footage, and the versatility of magnetic mounting and wireless control via the ActionPod makes the Insta360 Go 3 powerful even if its resolutions can't best the competition Compatible with iOS mobile devices with chips A11 or above and iOS version 11.0 or above, including iPhone SE 2, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPad Air (2020), iPad Pro and newer iPad models. Android Devices: One of the major reasons to buy a Surface device in the first place is that you’re kind of getting a pure version of Windows that you really won’t find elsewhere unless you build a PC yourself. There is no bloatware here, just a pure and simple Windows 11 installation. It’s something we’ve always loved about the Microsoft Surface lineup, and especially at this price point it’s not something you should take for granted.

The Insta360 Go 3 is an ingenious camera. It’s well made and easy to use, and the design is impressively versatile. Image quality is pretty good, too and it’s stuffed with clever shooting modes. The GO 3 retains the thumb-shaped design of its predecessors, complete with rounded ends and curved edges, albeit in slightly different dimensions.

The Action Pod's touch controls were also intuitive, borrowing the menu system from other Insta360 action cameras and tuning it to the Go 3's capabilities. Within the settings, I was able to do things on the touch display that I couldn't do in the smartphone app, such as turn off the LED light on the front of the camera and mute the beeping noise. You’ll also be pleased to know that the Go 3 is water-resistant up to 5 meters (IPX8), so you can film in the rain or even underwater without a worry! However, the action pod (charging case) has a lower water-resistance rating of IPX4, meaning it can only withstand splashes. Speaking of which, the Go 3 features a 11.24mm f/2.2 camera (35mm equivalent) and is capable of shooting up to 2.7K video (at 24/25/30 frames per second) and photos in four resolutions including 2,560 x 1,440 (16:9) and 2,936 x 1,088 (2.7:1) as a DNG RAW. The camera can also shoot at 1440p and 1080p at 24/25/30/50 frames per second. Timelapses can be recorded to 1440p, but slow motion 120 frames per second video is restricted to 1080p.
