About this deal

In 2022, the European Parliament voted to classify carbon-free nuclear energy as “sustainable” and to include it in an important list called the “Green Taxonomy'' for sustainable finance. This was a HUGE win for science and a MASSIVE bit of good news for me and my gener ation.

Celebrating 25 years of this enchanting ecological fantasy from a multi-award-winning picture book creator.

The essence of the humour in this story stems from Greenpeace’s replies, each one a little more adamant that there is absolutely “NO” possibility of a large sea mammal residing in a garden pond. Emily is completely undeterred and continues seeking advice out of concern for her whale, and her replies are just as hilarious. The beautiful illustrations capture the enchantment of childhood and let the reader in on the fact that Emily and her whale are enjoying time together! A breath of fresh air… Witty and sparkling line-and-wash pictures… Full of humour and vitality.’ The Guardian Simon’s Comments World Earth Day was last week, and here is a story on that subject – Dear Greenpeace by Simon James. This is a delightful story about a a little girl who is convinced that there is a whale in her pond and writes to Greenpeace to ask how to look after it. Of course, Greenpeace think she’s telling a tall tale until…The empathy and care shown by the characters in the story is one for all of us to remember to give to our world, and ourselves.

People love to send me films and I have been sent this one quite a few times over the last few weeks. It all sounds a bit nerdy, but it couldn’t be more important. It meant that nuclear, (alongside other clean energy sources like wind and solar) could get the critical financial investment needed to help save our climate. Emily finds a whale in her pond, so she writes to Greenpeace for some advice on what to do about that. For some reason they don’t believe her, but give her some information about the species anyway. When using this film with a group of Y4 children this week to tie into their Rainforests topic we began by finding out lots about Orangutans.

Looking for something different

How wonderful it would be to have a blue whale for a friend and go swimming together every night… “A wonderfully imaginative tale which delivers a very powerful message.” Practical Parenting

I think this book would've been more interesting if the child were writing a marine biologist and not Greenpeace. Because of that choice, it feels fluffy and like an organisation doesn't care about a child's imagination? It's weird. I don't like it as it is, and it could've been done far better. old-fashioned and unscientific opposition to nuclear power, and join us in the fight against fossil fuels instead! Emily has a whale living in her garden pond, so she writes letters to Greenpeace for information about him. Each reply from Greenpeace is helpful, yet insistent that there can't possibly be a whale in her garden.Although Emily receives unquestionably polite but incredulous answers like this one each time she writes, she does not stop pestering Greenpeace for advice. For there is a huge, blue whale in her pond in Plymouth, Devonshire, England, and who would be more capable of helping her make him feel comfortable than the famous experts on all things wildlife and environmental?

Find out about the migration of whales and plot their movements on a map of the world. How far do they travel?

What is reading comprehension?

I had quite a bit of empathy towards Emily as she was sure she had not only seen the whale but had claimed to looking after and protecting the whale. a remarkable amount of humor and emotional truth… an endearing book’ Wall Street Journal Simon’s Comments My generation trusts respected bodies like the IPCC who say that we can’t meet the Paris climate goals without nuclear energy. Put simply, we trust the science. Our real enemy isn’t the EU’s support for nuclear energy, it’s FOSSIL FUELS.
