It looks identical to its predecessor, the TK800. It is a compact DLP projector with a curved white shell and a blue color accent plate on the front. At only 9.2 pounds, transporting it outside for a movie night under the stars is no problem. There are two adjustable rear feet and a wide adjustable foot at the front to adjust image height when sitting on a flat surface. Three M4-sized mounting screw points are on the bottom for a ceiling mount. The BenQ TK800M sports a playful aesthetic composed of a curved white chassis with a powder blue faceplate. The device is smaller than many typical projectors, plus it only weighs in at a little over nine pounds. This design makes the model easy to transport, whether if you are bringing it to a party or just setting it up in your patio or garage. The BenQ TK850 3000-lumen projector produces UHD pictures at resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels. This projector supports HDR10, providing incredibly bright, colorful content. The device has a dynamic Iris and enhanced contrast, making it a good choice for home theaters. This device is factory calibrated and covers the DCI-P3 space quite well. With a dedicated Sport mode, this projector is suitable for watching sports. However, this projector produces above-average fan noise. In that case you’ll want to look at active cables that have a signal booster built into the cable, or a fiber optic HDMI cable (also active) that can work up to 150 feet and more without issue. The problem is they’re both more expensive than passive cables, although the prices have been coming down. They’re also unidirectional, so if the cable isn’t working, turn it around and you should get picture. Compared to older models, a modern projector will have much better image quality and a more powerful lamp while requiring less frequent maintenance and making less noise. Thanks to improvements in low-power diode light output and the long lamp life of blue laser diodes, modern projector light sources last several times longer than the bulbs in traditional projectors. New BenQ models also benefit from additional features such as built-in Wi-Fi, HDR capability, and improved color wheel processing for more realistic color.

It doesn’t set itself out to be a home cinema projector or one that movie fans could use day in day out, it just doesn’t offer a decent enough performance to fulfil those users goals, and there are better machines out there for that. No, it has simple goals that won’t please the fussy videophile and it couldn’t care less about that in all seriousness. This BenQ TH585 3500-lumen projector has HDMI and USB A inputs for connecting computers. It also has VGA and RS232 ports for legacy devices. With a monitor output port, this projector enables extending the screen to other display devices. It has a lamp life of up to 15,000 hours, supporting simple maintenance. Featuring up to 3500 lumens of brightness, this device is ideal for well-lit rooms. It has a zoom function, lens shift, and auto keystone. Introduction to BenQ Projectors As we briefly mentioned above the BenQ TK800M features the latest version of Texas Instruments’ 0.47″ DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) imaging chip. This is exactly the same chip that we get in BenQ HT3550 that we had reviewed recently and comes with a few improvements compared to the one we found in the previous TK800. item.finalPrice !== item.regularPrice ? currency + ' '+item.regularPrice : ''| numberThousandsCommas | numberDecimalPoint}} The TK800M is marketed as a “sports” projector that is sacrificing color accuracy for better brightness but this doesn’t mean that it cannot be used in a home theater or home cinema room. BenQ took everything that was good with the old TK800 model and improved upon it with the end product being more than impressive. But the real question is how much better the TK800M is compared to it’s predecessor?

Who would not like to use such a projector? We remember the old slide projectors and see how much technology has developed over the decades. BenQ also sells smart projectors and a range of accessories and replacement parts, including lamps and WiFi modules. Their business projector and education projector lines feature some highly innovative products, such as their 4k UHD laser projectors that offer optical zoom and HDMI-out ports for conferencing.Your article has been very timely for me. As the parish priest of a local church, I have been looking into way to make liturgy more accessible to everyone. Projected services is a goal of the parish. Your article has explained a great deal about the technology of these visual systems. I really did not understand 4K until reading this review. For me, the most informative part of the article was the side by side visual comparisons you offered. Your article is informative and easy to follow. You have taken something that is very technical and explained it very well. Even the pictures of the various ports and controls were great. Thanks for the article. Reply

The main selling point of the BenQ TK800 is that it supports 4K and while this is true, it’s worth pointing out that the projector’s DLP chip is not 3840x2160 pixels. It uses XPR technology, which essentially takes a 1920x1080 pixel DLP chip and flashes the image four times in incredibly fast succession to create an image with a perceived resolution of over eight million pixels. Amazingly this actually works, and even with test patterns the images appear to be 4K in terms of resolution. The look of this movie also helps a lot but it seems that the improved lens that the TK800M uses really brings out all the small details on the screen. The image felt slightly softer in the edges compared to the center but the difference is very small and cannot affect the overall amazing quality we got. With Full HD still going strong rest assured that the TK800M will make the best out of your 1080p library. The BenQ TH585 3500-lumen projector is a 1080p device for use in settings ranging from classrooms to home theaters. With a low 16ms input lag and super-fast response time, this projector will please gaming enthusiasts. It has a short throw distance, projecting 100-inch images just a couple of feet away. The device has a built-in 10-watt speaker for sound output. However, the sound volume on this device is low even after connecting external speakers. Sport Picture Mode renders realistic skin shades, warm wood tones, and vivid reds with balanced green and blue for stunning big-screen projection of fast-paced indoor sports action on wooden courts. And Sport Sound Mode accentuates the announcer's commentary and clear acoustic details of squeaking sneakers, referee whistles, and scraping skates in an indoor arena. BenQ offers a relatively wide range of high-end projectors in different categories. For example, you might be looking for a projector to use for outdoor movie nights or to show your favorite movie. Generally, the best projectors from BenQ are known for excellent image quality, producing detailed images with great dynamic range and accurate colors.

BenQ TK800 Features and Specs

HDR content looks considerably better compared to SDR on the BenQ TK800M which is its primary purpose. Color accuracy sports visible improvements, lowering the average Delta E to a more acceptable 3.7 compared to around 4.8 in SDR. Contrast also gets a nice bump since HDR mode gets to utilize the high brightness threshold of the lamp in this projector. The BenQ TK800 is well-made, has all the connections you’ll need, and sports a solid set of features. It’s easy to set up and simple to operate, making it ideal for periodic use. You’ll get the best image using an actual screen, but a white wall will suffice. BenQ is a multinational electronics company based in Taipei. It began in 1984 and began marketing using the BenQ brand in 2001. Along with mobile devices, business and industrial displays, monitors, lamps, and the Zowie Gear line of gaming peripherals, BenQ offers top-rated projectors, including LCD projectors and DLP-based laser short-throw projectors, and dedicated gaming projectors. And since we are talking about audio the TK800M comes with BenQ’s CinemaMaster Audio+2 system that according to the manufacturer provides a wider frequency range from a powerful 5 watt speaker placed in a resonant sound chamber for deep bass and soaring highs while it’s audio-enhancing technology provides exclusive EQ algorithms for pure clarity and sensual sound quality. The promotional material sounds very good but to be completely honest here, there is so much such a little speaker can do in any given situation. Yes, having a built-in speaker vastly increases the projector’s portability making the need for an audio system not so big but for good audio immersion you will need a separate audio system to handle the sound.
