About this deal

However, AMD still holds the advantage in all of the key power criteria, with the Ryzen 5000 models retaining the crown of the most efficient desktop CPUs that we've ever tested by a slim margin. Intel CPU specifications indicate this power dissipation number as "Processor Base Power" and "Maximum Turbo Power." Overall, the Ryzen processors are still the most power-efficient chips we've ever tested, but Alder Lake closes the gap significantly. However, Intel's improvement here is noteworthy: We measured a peak of 88W with the 12400 with the power limits lifted, while the previous-gen 11400 peaked at a whopping 145W.

I found that the dual 120 mm fans on the TOUGHAIR 510 did an excellent job of keeping an LGA 1700 CPU cool, even under heavy workloads. Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake in the “production readiness stage” while fans will have to wait longer for Control 2Regarding cooling the Core i5-12400, there are two main types to choose from: air cooling and liquid cooling. Air cooling is the most common type and involves using a heatsink and fan to dissipate heat from the CPU. Air coolers come in various sizes and designs, with larger models typically offering better cooling performance. However, they can be noisy and bulky, which may concern some people. Finally, all application and gaming data has been collected using the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card and the operating system of choice was Windows 11. That covers it, let's dive into the results... Benchmarks The last four slides in the above album give us a different view of power efficiency. Here we calculate the cumulativeenergy required to perform a given task. We plot this 'task energy' value in Kilojoules on the left side of the chart. These workloads are comprised of a fixed amount of work, so we can plot the task energy against the time required to finish the job (bottom axis) to give us a better look at efficiency.

Once again we're including Factorio in the application benchmarks not to measure fps, but rather updates per second. This automated benchmark calculates the time it takes to run 1,000 updates. This is a single-thread test which apparently relies heavily on cache performance. I was very impressed with the cooling capability of the Enermax Liqmax III 360, which boasts an excellent 360-watt TDP (Thermal Design Power). The big improvement when compared to 11th-gen though is the power consumption. For the same level of performance, the Core i5-12400 reduced total system consumption by 28%... and that's total system power consumption, not just CPU power. This series of power supplies comes in power outputs including 750, 850, 1000, 1200, 1350 and 1650 watts. Obviously we need to take this with a good deal of caution, though, but it’s quite a startling result if genuine.

The Horizon Zero Dawn results aren't that favorable for the 12400. That said it's worth mentioning that if we were to use the ultimate quality setting the game is entirely GPU limited and this normalizes CPU performance, seeing the 5600X and 12400 matched, even with the 6900 XT at 1080p. But with the dialed down 'favor quality' visual preset the game becomes more CPU limited in our test conditions and this saw the 5600X up to 21% faster with the 12600K up to 17% faster.

The latest Windows 11 update won't install for some users, and tanks gaming performance even if it does On high settings Intel Core i5-12400 can achieve from 199.5 FPS up to 299.3 FPS , with average around 249.5 FPS . Then when power limited to the 65w spec, it matched the 5600X making it 8% slower than the unleashed configuration. Being someone who appreciates a clean and modern look in my builds, I appreciated the sleek design of the Corsair 700D Airflow, which features tempered glass on one side and a steel front panel grille. We say wallet-friendly, but of course what we don’t know is a key piece of the puzzle, and that’s how Intel will pitch pricing. In this case, it should be in line with current midrange pricing, you would hope – perhaps a bit more (or maybe not if Intel really wants to take the fight to AMD and go for the CPU jugular, to try to reclaim some of that desktop territory lost to Ryzen in recent years). You can search our catalog of processors, chipsets, kits, SSDs, server products and more in several ways.

Next we have Rainbow Six Siege, and here the 12400 was slightly faster than the 11700K, 10700K, and 3700X, making it just 8% slower than the 12600K. That does make it quite a bit slower than the 5600X, to the tune of 17%, or 19% slower if we compare the 1% low figures. Still overall we're seeing strong performance from the 12400 and an excellent result in terms of cost per frame. I know your Chiefs are playing today, but this article is a mess. They meant no eCores, not no integrated graphics. When compared to past generations, it did roughly match the 11700K and was quite a bit faster than the 11600K, in that sense performance was very good. Chapter title: "Gaming Benchmarks and Performance: I ntel Core i5-12400 vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 5 5600G" The Core i5-12400 matched the 11600K and 10700K here, making it 9% slower than the 12900K and 15% slower than the 5600X. That might appear a little disappointing at first, but remember the 12400 costs ~30% less than the 5600X, so this remains a great result in terms of value. In straight CPU performance terms it's mighty impressive, too, offering great single core performance and still pretty meaty multithreaded prowess despite dropping the E-Cores.
