About this deal

My only challenge is that the book feels too one-sided and might therefore be alienating to readers new to the topic. There's a fair amount of arguments opposing veganism mentioned, but they're all debunked so elegantly that the work might lose some credibility. I found the audiobook very engaging however I think it's a really widely held belief that humans are omnivores, we have front facing eyes and need meat to live healthy. I think these concepts should have been refuted in the first chapter.

Whether you are a vegan needing more thoughtful and irrefutable dinner-table counter arguments, a curious relative or friend of a vegan, or simply someone curious about learning about and helping to change systemic issues, this book is for you! If you are a human, this book is for you! When I went vegan, Ed was the one who caught my attention. I saw a video of him showing a video of an animal being slaughtered to a meat eating girl, who burst into tears and said she would stop eating meat. Then I went on and watched a lot of his videos. The way he spoke, the arguments he gave... He was one of the main reasons I went vegan, and I thank him loads for that. The United Nations has declared for about a decade now that our greatest risk for pandemics come from our close interaction with farmed animals.

Confronting gendered stereotypes about meat-eating will certainly help. A US study released last November in the journal Appetite found that conformity (or otherwise) to traditional gender roles was still a good predictor of people’s meat consumption and openness to vegetarianism for environmental reasons. It's not that Winters wants farmers to go extinct, but for them to transition to crops that will actually feed the world's hungry billions of people and not the hundreds of millions of farmed animals grown simply to kill for their flesh or secretions and who drink much more water than do plants. While the author didn’t intend it, this book is by vegans for vegans. While the arguments are meant to be presented in a logical manner, they are filled with holes and based around flawed assumptions briefly described by the points below. The tone of the book is undoubtedly aimed at converting people to veganism, which I don't mind in the slightest but as the title states it is vegan propaganda.

Exhaustively researched and well-written book for the case of being humane towards animals. Earthling Ed managed to make the book comprehensive while keeping his explanations concise. It is easy to read and can be the only book you will have to read about veganism. It includes discussions on: Our choices can help alleviate the most pressing issues we face today: the climate crisis, infectious and chronic diseases, human exploitation and, of course, non-human exploitation. Undeniably, these issues can be uncomfortable to learn about but the benefits of doing so cannot be overstated. It is quite literally a matter of life and death. As a vegan, this serves as a great tool for facilitating conversations in the future in a more informed and effective manner. I love the way Ed breaks down all the mess surrounding veganism and the propaganda fed to us from the meat dairy and egg industries.Overall, I think this is an essential read both for vegans and for curious non vegans, who care about the future of our planet. This book shows how veganism could change the world for the better, and also how dezastruos the current system really is. It's both an informative and a terrifying read. The amount of pain, stress and suffering experienced by hundreds of millions of sentient beings with conscious experience, emotions, relationships and behaviour is unimaginable. And we are causing it. Just to have some simplistic, banal feeling of pleasure for a few minutes with our meal. Without necessity (in our modern affluent countries at least).
