Dive into this incredible story about the connection between a boy and a whale and the bond that sets them both free. After being handed his mothers sketch book and being invited on a whale spotting tour, he meets White Beak for the first time and an instant connect starts.

Like The Last Bear, The Lost Whale is illustrated by Levi Penfold. What do you think of his illustrations - any stand-out moments? The Lost Whale has a strong environmental message and an atmosphere aided by the striking illustrations of Levi Pinfold, which help the story come to life, just as it did in the previous collaboration between author and illustrator in The Last Bear. A Big Roarsome Hello! Grab yourself some peanut butter, a pot of hot chocolate and make yourself at home. I am the author of THE LAST BEAR, a middle-grade adventure story for animal lovers - the WINNER of the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize & the Blue Peter Book Awards 2022! My 2nd book, THE LOST WHALE is now out in the UK, Australia & NZ and the US. Watching the grey whales off the coast, he realises he has a special talent that allows him to hear them. He makes friends among the whale watching community. When one of the whales, the beloved Whitebeak, goes missing, both adults and children join forces to find her. In the common cause to rescue Whitebeak, families are healed. The Lost Whale explores the environmental impact that humans have on the oceans, like your debut The Last Bear. Why do you focus on environmental issues in your stories, and why did you want to feature a whale in this story?

That is how love is, it is vast and knows no boundaries, just like the ocean's depth. For when, we love and care for someone or something so deeply, naturally we would want to save and to protect it from any harm. Just like Rio did. The most spellbinding read. I raced through this book, completely engrossed in Rio and his quest to find White Beak. My book of the year so far' Nizrana Farook, author of The Girl Who Stole an Elephant Lleno de mensajes duros pero necesarios, sin dejar perder la esperanza, es un libro que te hace pasar por una vorágine de sentimientos y no dejará a nadie indiferente. Perfect for readers of 8+, beautifully illustrated throughout by Levi Pinfold - winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal and illustrator of Harry Potter 20th anniversary edition covers. Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - A dazzling debut . . . A magical, confidently told story - with beautiful illustrations by Levi Pinfold . . . I predict a roaring success' The Times Children's Book of the Week A raíz de eso, la soledad y la conexión con otras personas (y seres) también son un tema prevalente en el libro.

With passionate and lyrical descriptions of the sea and whales, this novel takes us through Rio's emotional journey from a traumatised outsider to someone who knows his strengths and his place in the world. As he cares for Whitebeak, he comes to understand more about how he has cared for his mother in the past, what he can achieve and what he cannot. By the author of the stunning novel The Last Bear, The Lost Whale is just as heart wrenching about a child and an animal. These children have had to make tough grown-up decisions, and stand up for what they have come to love, and even put their own selves at risk for beautiful creatures. First things first, I learned a lot. As much as I'd like to think of myself as a dolphin/whale/cetacean/ocean enthusiast, I didn't know that the Southern Resident Killer Whales are endangered. Somehow, I know all about endangered blue whales and endangered right whales. I was completely bummed out when the Yangtze River dolphin went extinct, but I hadn't come across much about SRKWs and how there are so few of them left. Until now.

There were many grown-ups all round the world who seemed to be waiting for the right moment to do something. Many people who were leaving it too late.

I always try to do my writing in the morning, otherwise I'll just talk myself out of it. My new favourite spot is on the sofa in our conservatory where there's lots of plants and natural sunlight. I like my writing zone to be gentle and soft. Sometimes my cat will sit beside me to keep me company and then get annoyed when I am not giving her enough fuss! Among the main messages highlighted in this story is to show our love, care and respect for nature and the ocean as we are part of nature and we depend on nature for our own survivals. "The ocean wasn't just a body of water-something that linked all the land masses together. It was far more formidable than that. It breathed just like he breathed. It got angry, just like he got angry. And sometimes it got sad just like he got sad. The ocean wasn't separate from him. It was part of him". After producing 2 movies: 'Saving Luna' and 'The Whale', Michael Parfit and Suzanne Chisholm have come out with yet another masterpiece about Luma the whale.

Just like Rio Turner, the main character in this story, i myself is a carer of my own beloved mother who is also suffering from mental health illness (depression),same as Rio's mother is. I felt the pain, the sadness, the loneliness, ,the missing and the longing that Rio did and had for his mother. I myself hoped and still hoping that like Rio, i could heal my mother and make her happy again. We ignore the rest of our senses, underestimate their power, not only disconnecting us from one another, but also disconnecting us from the world around us, dismissing what we cannot comprehend or recognize as empathy. Rio goes to stay with his grandmother in LA after his mother is taken to a hospital to recover from mental health issues. At first there is friction, but it doesn't take long for them to find common ground, but also for Rio to make friends.Hannah Gold's latest novel, The Lost Whale, includes strong ecological themes and the bond between a boy and a distinctive whale. Other than a wonderfully satisfying story, what would you like your readers to take from The Lost Whale?
