About this deal

Tilt your pencil and turn every hair into a sharp clump. Be gentle when you're doing the fur texture drawing. Step 7 Take the 2B pencil and use the same technique to shade the side of the tail fur drawing. We need to give it a 3D form. Step 4

Some folks place a heavy amount of pressure on the pencil naturally. For these artists, a "4B" pencil may be the darkest pencil that is required. For those that naturally produce lighter marks, a much darker "6B" or "8B" may be required. Continue where your 6B lines finished and, using a 5B pencil, continue the contour lines across the middle of the sphere. Bending the lines slightly will add definition to the sphere. If you push too hard with an H pencil, it could possibly leave indentations in your paper. Not good. The whole point of using a light pencil that doesn’t leave permanent marks on your paper has been negated if indentations are left behind. If used with a light hand, H-grade pencil strokes will erase very easily. However, their hardness can easily cause indentations in your paper. This can not only make them difficult to erase but also leaves behind an indentation in your paper even if you are able to remove all the graphite. This may not be all bad if you want to have a more permanent outline that you can shade over, but be certain about those outlines before you press down. And remember, pressing down will dent and possibly even tear the paper. For a good value, you can't beat Lyra Art Design Pencils. The graphite is rigid enough that it works for technical drawing, and with 17 different grades available, there's no shortage of shading you can accomplish. One reviewer writes, “The finest pencils for drawing. High-quality graphite that is smooth and easy to blend. A wide variety of hardness for all your artwork needs.”Let's start with some theory. You'll be able to draw fur much better just by learning these few simple facts. Despite my love of B pencils, there are times when I delve into the H pencils. There are also artists who love their H pencils with the same fervor that I love my 6B. Pencil love is a unique and beautiful thing. When learning how to draw fluffy hair, a blending stump or even a cotton swab are useful. Use it to gently blend the clumps, "drawing" over the fur according to its flow. Step 14

If you notice something you'd like to change, this is the time to do it. However, don't be tempted to add more contrast—the darker the shadows, the harder the clumps will look. Soft fur doesn't have so many clear shadows, because light easily gets through it. 3. How to Draw Short Fur Step 1 As you can see above, a 6H is a very light pencil and 8B is very dark. H-Grade Pencils and How To Use ThemMoving onto the cylinder, use a secondary piece of paper to cover the right hand side of the sheet. This acts as a mask to help you get a neat line as you start to shade so the mask should run directly down the right hand side of your cylinder. Three grades of pencil blended to the left with a blending stump. Eliminating the Glare in Your Pencil Drawings If you're looking for a pencil for technical sketching, give the Staedtler Mars 780 a try. Reviewers talk about these pencils as keepsakes that they use for years and only replace when necessary. “I've used this specific lead holder for over a decade and when I lost it I just had to replace it,” one person wrote. “The holder itself is light, with a nice weight given by the metal grip. Despite what you might expect the metal diamond grip is actually very comfortable and pretty smooth.” First, fur is made of hairs that lie one upon another, creating a smooth surface. However, when the surface bends, they start to clump—the individual hairs are grouped. The lighter the hairs, the easier they get clumped

Once you understand the type of lines you can expect from your pencils, it's easy to mix and match to put together a graphite pencil set that will cover your needs as an artist. Press harder near the edge to make the shadow gradually darker to work the fur texture drawing. Step 5 Take some time to experiment with all different types of drawing pencils. As you do so, take note of which pencils you feel the most comfortable with for various purposes.

Take the HB pencil again and draw "side hair". These curves will define the direction of the fur all over the tail. Remember to make fur bend on the top. Step 6 We can see everything because of the contrast between light and shadow. The bigger the clumps, the bigger the shadow between them. Now the difficult part—we need to draw the shadows between clumps to make fur pop. There are certain "signs" you can use as a base, but you need to try it yourself to understand how to draw a fur clump. Practice on the side for a moment if you're not sure how to do it. DUX is the oldest pencil sharpener factory in Germany, so you know you can't go wrong with their utensils. Their pencil sharpener includes openings for slim and oversized pencils and comes in a variety of cute colors to complement your drawing set. Did you enjoy this tutorial? F and HB pencils are middle of the road and more general use pencils. F tends to still be a tad hard, while HB and B tend to be a nice blend of both worlds. Though they cannot get very dark. B-Grade Pencils and How to Use Them Continue by going to the right. The closer to the edge, the narrower and tighter the shadows should be. Step 9 Pencils produced by different manufacturers vary in quality and behavior. Inevitably, each artist will discover their favorites.I have found that Derwent Graphic, Prismacolor Turquoise, and Staedtler Mars Lumograph are among the best choices. But even withthese great pencil choicesavailable, there are other options. If you're an artist that will be using graphite drawing pencils frequently, then you may want to invest in an electric sharpener. This one by Stanely Bostitch will cut the time it takes to sharpen your pencils in half (it even works with colored pencils!). It also features SharpStop technology so you won't risk oversharpening, and instead keeping them at a perfectly fine point. Faber-Castell's Grip 2011 Mechanical Pencil has won design awards for a reason. Rubber dots along the triangular barrel make it extremely comfortable and easy to grip. It also comes with a twist-out eraser and is pre-loaded with lead. You can then work in the same way for the lid of the cylinder, with strokes going from left to right, as the light will hit the top differently than the curvature on the main surface.
