A big congratulations to MrO’Connell’s 4th/5thClass whom travelled to school using the most sustainable methods of transport this week. Almost half of Mr O’Connell’s class have walked, cycled, car-pooled and Parked ‘n’ Strided this week which is a huge change from last year and made them the clear winner of the Golden Boot. Well done guys. Who will win this week? The Green Schools Travel Flag is a national award that recognises schools who are reducing their reliance on travel by car. The award is open to all primary and post-primary schools in Ireland. In England, the flying of flags is treated as advertisements for the purposes of the planning regime to ensure the flags do not impact on safety or amenity. Some flags require formal consent (permission) from the local planning authority, whereas others like the Union Flag do not. The detailed controls over flag flying are set out in detailed regulations (see links below). Two flags on the same flagpole projecting from any part of a building are permitted provided one of the flags is from category (a) (flags which do not need consent) such as a national flag and that flag is flown in the superior position.
