About this deal

Blessed Rejuvenation–For two points regain D3 lost wounds on a friendly Novitiate model. You can do this twice during an activation, potentially healing 2D3 (and this faction has a medic as well). This is great, and can be used to heal a model to lose penalties for being injured, and to make heal models your opponent has failed to kill.

If you’ve seen the 40k Kommandos datasheet you’ll remember how annoying it is, with six different bullet points of different gear to make sure that if you built the cool options for specialists in Kill Team, everything had specific rules that conformed to exactly what’s in the kit. Judging by the new Novitiates datasheet released on Warhammer Community, someone may have realised this was getting a little out of hand – they have stuff they can take, sure, but the Kill Team Specialists here have a lot going on – there’s a trainee Dialogus, one with neural whips, one with an Eviscerator, a big old mace/censer, a condemnor boltgun, some duelling blades. The rules team have resisted the urge to translate this into 40k terms, and the Novitiates in that game can take a few bits of gear, but most of it gets rolled up into “autoguns” or “Novitiate melee weapons.” This is an incredibly sensible decision; you can build the stuff you want to play Kill Team and not find your squad is useless for 40k because you put 100pts of upgrades on a 75pt unit. We’ll have to wait and see if this plays out on the T’au side, with their new codex trailed for “early next year” on Warhammer Community this week, and we might end up seeing some of their upgrades integrated into a new 40k datasheet – the Medical Technican and Transpectral Interference Pathfinders both have shades of the Helix Adept/Comms Array guys from their sort-of equivalents, Infiltrators – but it’s nice to see a bit of restraint exercised here. Sometimes you just want to use your guys (or girls) without each one having a slightly different gun or extra thing they do.There’s also a brand new Battle Report between the Grey Knights and the Aeldari. We already know that the mighty Avatar of Khaine is almost unstoppable. How will the legendary daemonhunters fare against one? Exactors have a unique action, Whip into Frenzy, that lets her spend one of her AP to give another operative (that isn’t the Superior as she won’t be taking any of that nonsense) +1 to it’s APL. If the model in question is the Penitent, add an extra two inches to her movement. This means that a Penitent can be whipped and charge ten inches, which gives more flexibility for getting in a multicharge, and leaves her an action point to fire her pistol or perform a mission action if all the charge targets end up dead. The kill team medic, this model comes with an autopistol and surgical saw. The surgical saw is four dice, 4+, 2/3, Lethal 5+, so it’s not a terrible close combat weapon. This operative has the Mantra of Restoration ability, which once per turn lets you stand up an operative within ■ with one wound if it would otherwise be incapacitated. Both models lose an APL for the turn. They can also heal friendly operatives for 2D3 wounds with their Chirurgeon’s Tools, but a model that was saved by Mantra of Restoration cannot be healed by Chirugeons Tools in the same turn (so just use the Blessed Rejuvenation Act of Faith instead). Emperor’s Protection– When a friendly Novitiate suffers a mortal wound, spend a point to ignore a mortal wound.

Glory to the Martyrs – A once commonly taken Tac Op, this has become much more difficult now that every mission involves six objective markers meaning your opponent can actively avoid killing operatives on the declared marker . D Building a Novitiates Team The last three slots I'm hung up on. Obviously the duelist isn't amazing, the preceptor and hospitallar give amazing buffs but open you up to being multi charged and blast(I know each match is different and they will do better in more shooting ones). While the Exactor and Penitent seem almost required to take together and I think I want to take them but not entirely sure yet.

The distinction in terrain is also helpful, as we can see a different set of teams make the cut based on the different style of terrain in US events. What Does it Mean: Analyzing the Data Divine Shield (2 Faith Points) – The defensive version of Guiding Light. Retain a failed save as a normal save. From a purely mathematical perspective this is more useful than its offensive counterpart. The defense die pools of your average operative is automatically smaller than the die pools of your average ranged weapon as are the odds of success on individual die. Being able to automatically pass a save to prevent an operative from dying can swing a game. The meta is still in a healthy place and with smaller events and fewer rounds the chances you can take whatever faction you want and use it to win events in your area increases. That said, if you want to qualify in the top 8 of a major, you’ll likely have to go the extra mile and prepare for each matchup – your skill and knowledge of the game and the opposing faction are going to be what powers you over opponents more often than the power of the faction you chose to play.
