About this deal

Arguably, there’s enough power on tap to ride most trails you’d encounter, with only enduro-style riding requiring more illumination. The light itself is pretty robust. The front half of the body is made from aluminium, which easily resists being dropped onto the road without issue. I would like to see a better warranty though: one year for workmanship or material defects and a mere 120 days for the battery doesn't seem long enough to me.

FL1 and FL2 are simple flash modes with 20 lumen and 100 lumen respectively, with FL3 offering a 400-lumen flash while the LED stays on at 20 lumen output. It's similar to Exposure's pulse mode where the light never actually goes out. For the size of the unit, though, I'm pretty impressed by the output. Visibility is good when used alone, even on unlit roads under tree cover. The beam is nicely direct, illuminating what you need to see, with very little wasted power out of the sides. You press and hold the button for a few seconds to swap from steady to flash, and then you have another four flashing modes plus an SOS setting. The Moon Meteor Vortex Pro offers a decent amount of brightness matched by some impressive burn-times. Nine mode choices could see you really stretch out that battery life too. In my opinion, the Meteor Vortex Pro is a solidly made, affordable light with a good choice of modes and outputs, plus the ability to set five of them to suit your own requirements. On paper, the weather sealing could be better but this hasn't been an issue during testing, and a replaceable battery is a definite plus. VerdictPrice, as you would imagine, is the most popular reason for someone buying one product over another. It is the single most important factor in choosing the majority of products we buy. The same goes for Lights. As we said in the pricing part of the review, brand is a really important consideration, but especially so when looking to buy Lights. But as you’re probably already aware, you’re on to a great choice if you do go with Moon, as they’re a fantastic brand, making amazing products.

The Rigel Max also has an Intelligent Motion Sensing Function, which means if it detects no movement for 20 seconds it'll switch to 10 lumens; after 60 seconds it'll go to standby; and after an hour of nothing it goes into a deep sleep.

Obviously, if you start playing with the VLS, your runtimes will vary from those stated in the tech info below. It becomes guess work really, but the indicators mentioned above are really helpful here. You'll find the charging point underneath and it uses the small USB type found on most mobile phones. It's protected by a small rubber cover. You can of course drop the lumens to 250, giving you 3hrs of run-time. I didn't quite get that on one daytime training ride, the light went out after 2hrs 53mins, but it was a pretty cold day. This setting is perfect for street-lit rides in the evening.

Klarna.com/uk/terms-and-conditions A few of our other favourites that we spotted when researching Moon Vortex Pro Front Light included, Otherwise, press once to power up, then subsequent single prods change mode, double for boost. Depress the button for a few seconds to switch to the flashing modes. Out on the road, though, it does pretty well. There is a decent amount of light thrown directly forward, with a reasonable spread out to the sides. It's not the best I've used – I'd like a slightly wider beam across the road or lane rather than one so focused on the centre.

Of course, there are plenty of lights available online for less money, but they won’t necessarily offer the same reliability or aftersales support as the trusted brands tested here. The Moon Vortex Pro 1300 has seen a boost in lumens for 2020, and while that impacts burn-times a bit, the adjustability of the VLS system means that you have total control over the balance brightness levels and battery life. With plenty of accessories in the box, the Moon is quite the performance bargain too. You can find all of our top-rated options in BikeRadar’s guide to the best mountain bike lights. Also tested

The light has an IPX4 rating for weatherproofing, which means it's splashproof; you could put a sliver of silicone grease on the charge port cover and battery compartment if you wanted, but I've had no issues even in torrential rain. VLS And you also get a GoPro adaptor which allows you to fit the Moon where you might a GoPro, below a Garmin mount or whatever.Resistance to the weather is always a concern for use in British weather. The Meteor Vortex Pro is rated to IPX4, which basically means it'll withstand splashing water from any direction. Alongside riding with them in the rain, I also like to give all the lights I test a good soaking from the bathroom shower to replicate really heavy rain. The Moon sailed straight through with no water entering the battery compartment, lens or charging port. It's the same price as the Ravemen CR1000 which comes with lower overall output and shorter battery life in like-for-like modes. And while you also get a remote control, there's no helmet mount. DF stands for Day Flash and it is a double shot of 400 lumens, plenty bright enough for you to be noticed on a sunny day as you filter through traffic.
