About this deal

On their debut album “Asbestos Mouth” the band TERMS give equal weight to tightly composed precision and spontaneous discovery, weaving together bold new worlds where crunchy dissonant riffs and pulverant, skewed melodies collide and consort with syncopated thunderstorms of percussion.Having served in acts such as Grand Ulena, Jitters and Yowie, TERMS is much more than just the sum of its parts... It is an ever-evolving an aggregate of incalculable expression. All forms of asbestos fibres are hazardous as they can induce cancer following inhalation exposure, but amphibole forms of asbestos (including blue and brown) are more hazardous to health than chrysotile (white). Asbestos is the name given to six minerals that occur naturally in the environment as bundles of fibers that can be separated into thin, durable threads for use in commercial and industrial applications. These fibers are resistant to heat, fire, and chemicals and do not conduct electricity. For these reasons, asbestos has been used widely in many industries. Additional asbestos-like minerals are found in the natural environment, including erionite. Additionally, when salt-cured fish and meat are cooked, a chemical called nitrosamine is released, which may increase a person’s risk of developing this cancer. Exposure to certain toxic chemicals — including formaldehyde and asbestos — may increase a person’s risk. Research on Pharyngeal Cancer and Asbestos If you’re a former asbestos worker, or a heavy smoker and drinker, there are other cancer screenings you can request. Make sure to mention your history of asbestos exposure. Your doctor or dentist may use special dyes or lights to observe abnormal areas in your mouth and throat.

At-home treatments for asbestos poisoning include avoiding asbestos and other lung irritants such as cigarette smoke. If you smoke, quit as soon as possible. There are extra steps you can take to keep yourself healthy: The major health problem caused by asbestos exposure, aside from cancer, is a lung disease called asbestosis. When a person breathes high levels of asbestos over time, some of the fibers can lodge deep in the lungs. Irritation caused by the fibers can eventually lead to scarring (fibrosis) in the lungs. This can make it hard to breathe. The main symptoms of asbestosis are shortness of breath and a chronic cough. Asbestosis is caused by breathing in asbestos fibers, which scar the lungs. Most people who develop asbestosis have had high levels of exposure over long periods. Exposure to airborne asbestos particles is the greatest risk to health. When the asbestos fibres become airborne, people working with asbestos may inhale particles. These particles remain in the lungs and, over time, can cause disease. A person’s chance of developing asbestos-related disease depends on how much asbestos they were exposed to and for how long. When asbestos is not disturbed and the fibres remain contained, this does not pose a risk for people using the building. Asbestos use is now bannedAll types of asbestos cause these diseases. Some fibers appear to be more carcinogenic such as crocidolite (blue asbestos). Several national and international agencies study substances in the environment to determine if they can cause cancer. (A substance that causes cancer or helps cancer grow is called a carcinogen.) The American Cancer Society looks to these organizations to evaluate the risks based on the available evidence. We know that asbestos causes most cases of pleural mesothelioma. Exposure to large amounts of asbestos for a long period of time increases your risk. Many people with peritoneal mesothelioma have also been exposed to asbestos. Vocal changes: A person’s voice may become quieter or sound huskier. People can also develop slurred speech or have difficulty pronouncing certain words.

Tell your doctor if you start to have symptoms that might be related to asbestos exposure. Symptoms include shortness of breath, a new or worsening cough, coughing up blood, pain or tightness in the chest, trouble swallowing, or unintended weight loss. See your doctor right away for any respiratory illness. This may be done while the area is numbed (local anaesthetic) or while you're asleep (general anaesthetic).I can only drink tea when it’s close to boiling. Put in very little milk. When it’s coffee, I always ask cafe staff to burn the milk. It’s then closer to boiling than tea. I have an asbestos mouth. If I put my finger in the tea or coffee I drink, it burns. Go figure! Tea has to be steaming. Obviously, this response will come with a health and safety warning about due diligence to one’s oesophagus, but you do have to have an asbestos mouth. My father drank his tea piping hot, so I do the same. It’s a genetic pre-disposition, perhaps. Nadia Banton This is why it's important to see your dentist or GP if you have a white patch in your mouth. Treatments for leukoplakia

A lung biopsy, which detects microscopic asbestos fibers in pieces of lung tissue removed by surgery, is the most reliable test to confirm exposure to asbestos ( 2). A bronchoscopy is a less invasive test than a biopsy and detects asbestos fibers in material that is rinsed out of the lungs ( 2). It is important to note that these procedures cannot determine how much asbestos an individual may have been exposed to or whether disease will develop. Asbestos fibers can also be detected in urine, mucus, and feces, but these tests are not reliable for determining how much asbestos may be in an individual’s lungs ( 2). Studies have also found clear links between workplace exposure to asbestos and cancers of the larynx (voice box)and ovaries. Many factors are involved in the risk of developing an asbestos-related disease. How long a person was exposed plays a major role. So does the concentration of asbestos fibers they inhaled.

Huang, Q. & Lan, Y. (2020, June 9). Colorectal cancer and asbestos exposure — an overview. Retrieved from https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/indhealth/58/3/58_2018-0271/_articleSince the early 1940s, millions of American workers have been exposed to asbestos. Health hazards from asbestos fibers have been recognized in workers exposed in the shipbuilding trades, asbestos mining and milling, manufacturing of asbestos textiles and other asbestos products, insulation work in the construction and building trades, and a variety of other trades. Demolition workers, drywall removers, asbestos removal workers, firefighters, and automobile workers also may be exposed to asbestos fibers. Studies evaluating the cancer risk experienced by automobile mechanics exposed to asbestos through brake repair are limited, but the overall evidence suggests there is no safe level of asbestos exposure ( 3, 8). As a result of government regulations and improved work practices, today’s workers (those without previous exposure) are likely to face smaller risks than did those exposed in the past.
