About this deal

Tested Ryan Gilmore: Originally developed for use on motorcycle helmets, an area where there’s no wiper action to help shift water, Vision + needed to be a capable option for removing water. Now available in a larger size for cars, Vision + proved to be an outstanding option, offering excellent water beading and glass cleaning action, all from a spray that required no curing time and took a couple of seconds to apply. Each waterproofing product is a little different—some are applied to wet products and some to dry, for example, and they each require a slightly different optimal spraying distance from the item—so it’s important to read the bottle instructions before you begin. In most instances, you’ll need a well-ventilated outdoor workspace for application, and you should cover that workspace with something like a tarp to keep the product excess contained.

Waterproofing sprays are applied to clothing and gear to enhance their water repellency. Hence, it would be impractical to have a waterproofing formula that isn’t washable. But, some silicone-based coatings can easily be washed off by detergents. Therefore, you want to avoid these types of sprays. Alternatively, you can reapply the spray after every wash with a detergent. Each product was applied to a sectioned-off screen under the wiper sweep – to accelerate wear – that had been clayed and cleaned. Water beading was then monitored over nine weeks. While all work in much the same way, they’re applied in different ways, so we took this into account and ranked them according to effecitveness, price from online sources and also what you get for the price - including extras like a cloth. Verdict Water repellent glasses are a great way to keep your vision clear in all kinds of weather conditions. With so many different styles and features available, it’s easy to find a pair that’s perfect for you. Water Repellent Spray for EyeglassesWe tried the wash on a down blanket, which before testing, allowed water to slip through the outer shell immediately, leading to a few damp, chilly nights while camping, and we found the water resistance of that outer layer much improved after its wash and dry cycle. The blanket was nice and fluffy after testing, and there was no change to the color or texture of the exterior. It’s still not a fully waterproof item—it wasn’t designed to be—and we’ll do our best not to soak it intentionally, but now we're less worried about it accidentally getting a little wet. Application is also worth paying attention to. There are three options; spray-on, roll-on and applicator-applied examples. Each has its pros and cons, with spray-on options the easiest to apply but least durable and applicator examples vice versa. Rain repellents are similar to car waxes in many ways, sometimes featuring minimum temperatures and directions to apply out of direct sunlight. Longer-lasting options may also feature a curing time. Once you’ve finished, you can embrace a moist-free car interior if you decide to opt for an in-car dehumidifier. What about durability? The company also notes the spray can darken some lighter-colored gear, so spot-testing is recommended. It can also reduce the flame-retardant properties of some fabrics. They actually kind of adhere to the individual fibers, like an old-fashioned telephone cord—they wrap around the fibers," says Heidi Allen, the vice president of marketing at Nikwax. "They have a little stretchiness to them." Avoid using the Rain‑X® Rain Repellent on plastic shower doors, glass shower doors with etching or frosting, plexiglass and fibre glass, plastic surfaces, including motorcycle windshields, ATVs and solar panels.

Rain repellents tend to work for much longer than bodywork waxes, and many in this test were still performing well after nine weeks of testing. They’re also handy for cars without a rear windscreen wiper, as rain and some dirt is automatically cleared off. To understand how water repellents work, you first have to understand the science behind what makes an object hydrophobic or “afraid of water.” There was minimal streaking from the repellent when freshly applied, even when the wiper blades were going full speed. In fact, it brought the test car’s windscreen up looking almost better than new. It’s an excellent glass cleaner and also offers some seriously impressive hydrophobic protection. When it comes to choosing a windshield water repellent, it’s important to consider the difference between PDMS and FAS polymers. While PDMS polymers like Rain-X have a higher water-shedding ability, they cannot chemically bond with the glass. This means that they are better at getting water off of your windshield, but they are more susceptible to erosion from external factors like friction from windshield wipers, UV rays, and extreme temperatures.

Next, spray the wet garment with Revivex Durable Water Repellent spray. Give the garment a nice, even application. You know you are applying too much if you see the repellent streaming off the fabric. First of all, they tend to be more comfortable than other options since they don’t have to fit snugly around your eyes or face. They also don’t fog up as easily as goggles do, so you can actually see better while wearing them. And finally, they provide UV protection for your eyes, which is important when spending time in the sun. Some of the best waterproofing sprays take about an hour or two to dry. However, others take as long as 48 hours. On average, waterproofing sprays designed for light use on clothing, shoes, and similar gear takes about 2 to 8 hours to dry up. Some sprays contain perfluorochemicals (PFCs), a group of synthetic chemicals the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns remain in the environment—and in the human body—for years, so you’ll want to be especially careful using any of those, especially around pets and children. (Or just avoid them in general.) And aerosol sprayers, though they work well for consumers, also have a negative environmental impact. If you’re seeking to prevent those issues, choose a non-aerosol spray that doesn’t contain PFCs. Furthermore, you may find waterproofing spray formulated with extra features. For example, you may find waterproofing agents such as scotch guards that protect your gear against sun damage, thanks to the UV protection it offers. However, as their scope of use increases, so does their price.
