Acute diarrhoea is often caused by a “stomach bug”, but it can also be caused by an underlying condition and drugs. “Stomach bug” is a general term that is commonly used to describe a range of gastrointestinal illnesses that can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and cramping. A stomach bug is not a medical diagnosis but rather a common term used to refer to a variety of illnesses, including viral and bacterial infections. Some common examples of stomach bugs include norovirus, rotavirus, and food poisoning (bacterial infection). These capsules can be taken by adults and children from the age of 12 years. However, diarrhoea is a common symptom of a number of serious stomach and bowel conditions and therefore some people should not take this medicine or should seek the advice of their pharmacist or doctor first. Occasionally patients with a colostomy (stoma) need a higher dose. Only take a higher dose if your doctor tells you to. Children's doses Cardiac events including QT interval and QRS complex prolongation and torsades de pointes have been reported in association with overdose. Some cases had a fatal outcome (see section 4.9). Overdose can unmask existing Brugada syndrome. Patients should not exceed the recommended dose and/or the recommended duration of treatment. However, it is important to note that codeine can be habit-forming and may cause side effects such as drowsiness, nausea, and constipation, so it should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Additionally, codeine is not typically used as a first-line treatment for diarrhoea, and other treatments, such as rehydration and changes in diet, are often recommended first. Co-phenotrope as an Imodium alternativeTwo capsules (4mg) to be taken initially, followed by 1 capsule (2mg) after ever loose stool (motion), or as previously advised by your doctor. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 6 capsules (12mg). Rifaximin is a medication that is used to treat bacterial infections in the gut, particularly those caused by certain strains of bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Clostridium difficile. It works by inhibiting bacterial RNA synthesis and thereby preventing the bacteria from multiplying and spreading. Table 1 displays ADRs that have been reported with the use of Loperamide Hydrochloride from either clinical trial (acute diarrhoea) or post marketing experience. Codeine is an opioid analgesic that can be used to treat diarrhoea. It works by reducing the contractions of the intestinal muscles, which can help to slow down the movement of stools through the intestines, allowing the body more time to absorb water and nutrients from the food. capsules or tablets, or 16 spoonfuls of liquid (5ml each), if you have a prescription or buy loperamide from a pharmacy

6. How to cope with side effects of loperamide

Travellers’ diarrhoea can often be prevented by practising good hygiene and food safety practices, such as washing hands frequently with soap and water, avoiding tap water, ice, and raw or undercooked foods, and choosing bottled water and food that has been cooked thoroughly. Whenever an underlying aetiology can be determined, specific treatment should be given when appropriate. The priority in acute diarrhoea is the prevention or reversal of fluid and electrolyte depletion. This is particularly important in young children and in frail and elderly patients with acute diarrhoea. Use of this medicine does not preclude the administration of appropriate fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy. Diphenoxylate works by slowing down the movement of stools through the intestines, which can help to reduce the frequency and severity of diarrhoea. It does this by binding to the opioid receptors in the gut, which can help to reduce the contractions of the intestinal muscles.
