This is me attempting to start out this review in a Fun Way, in the hopes that so much as one moment of my experience with this book can be Fun, because reading it was...not. It's predictable because its a rom com and obviously there are lay outs and expectations of a HEA but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I understand this is a trope being turned on its head; Dani is wealthy and alpha-female and anti-commitment but she had very few traits that softened her. A man in this situation wouldn't deserve his love interest so I don't think she deserves her hero Zafir.

Two talented chess players challenge each other on and off the board in bestselling author Hazelwood’s YA debut. Now for the level of steaminess.. I remember the first book being steamy, but this took the levels of hot to the next level, in that I felt like I was reading porn! It felt a bit too much for me, I prefer the sexual tension leading up to a couple getting together, and this had A LOT of sex. No one else seemed to mind this though, so maybe it's just me?! Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for so many explicit sex scenes?! Dani is a literal Queen, a bisexual badass who knows what she wants and goes after that shit. Training for her PHD, Dani is focussed on her academic potential. She knows what she wants (in and outside of the bedroom) and she goes for it and I loved this almost non-apologetic manner that she had! Dani embraced her sexuality and owned herself and it was so empowering to read about.Eighteen-year-old Mallory Greenleaf is no longer interested in chess, not since her hypercompetitive dad left—the game calls up painful memories. But she grudgingly agrees to play in a charity tournament as a favor to best friend Easton Peña. After she unexpectedly beats current world champion Nolan Sawyer, she’s offered a fellowship that will prepare her to play professionally. Even though Mallory doesn’t want to play anymore, she needs the money that winning would provide; she’s delayed college to support her family, since her mother is chronically ill with rheumatoid arthritis and is unable to work regularly. The more time she spends with Nolan, the more Mallory comes to like and respect him—and the more time she spends playing chess, the more she remembers how much she loved it. Mallory and Nolan are both cued white; there is some racial diversity among the supporting cast. Mallory and Easton are queer.

Her hero consistently gave gave gave but she rarely reciprocated even the smallest of things(like compliments or reassurance)even the ones that took little effort.

I love brown men in interracial. I think I'm disappointed that many of the brown men I've been reading as of recent weeks are a little boring. Zafir was a non-practicing Muslim and a cinnamon roll but much of what was adorable about him made him feel like financially he couldn't compete with Dani. I had to wonder whether this is the reason she never reassured him because he wasn't impressive in comparison to her so she reminded me of Molly from Insecure. She didn't really want to put in work she just wanted when her time was free to have a loyal partner. We’ve met Dani ( Her name is Slavic and it means “Morning star”! Even though our character is insomniac and night owl and she knows how to be shiny and energetic in the mornings thanks to Zaf’s uneaten protein bars!) at the first book and since I adored her sarcastic, witty, entertaining banters with her sisters and her quirky, likable antics, I was so excited to read her own book. In this book, we start learning more about her career driven moods, her ambitiousness to gain professional success. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Get A Life, Chloe Brown, but I really, REALLY enjoyed the second book. This was a brilliant 5 star read for me. I feel like I can’t stop talking about this one and I just might not! To be honest, all the hashtags at the start of each chapter kind of irritated me, but that's because I'm old ha ha! But #couplegoals and #Dr Rugbae made me cringe hard!

I have so much more that I love about this book but Im struggling to be coherent about all the little details that made this book so wonderful! I think the best advice I can give is for you to read this book! Major or minor, if something keeps you human when pressure makes you feel like a volcano, hold on to that thing by whatever means necessary." Ill forever be a fan of Talia Hibberts writing. The way she portrays thought, emotion and awareness always makes her books so compelling! Its difficult not to become wrapped in the lives of these characters because theyre so well-layered and refined. The drama, which occurs in almost every contemporary romance, is very believable. And I think the main reason is because the nature and traits of the characters are so well-developed, theres little for the reader to question. As I saw the events unfold I thought, Yep, thats exactly how Dani would react. Components like this make even the conflict a gratifying reading experience. I enjoyed how Zaf was a sensitive, intelligent, vulnerable romantic man! You don't see that a lot in romance, especially with male sports stars. He was open about his anxiety and grief, about loving romance books, and about wanting his own happy ending. He was so patient with Dani, and really supportive of her, he treated her really well, which just made me fall in love with him! I also liked how Dani was a socially awkward, cynical female with a guarded heart, who struggled with her emotions and feelings, and was slow to open up to people. It was like a role reversal! Together they did make a good pair, they balanced each other out and encouraged each other to be themselves. It was a reoccurring theme throughout the book, that you shouldn't try to change your partner, but accept them as they are. This book is addictive! Sooooo sweet! I’m mumbling “sweet and swoon” words like a sacred mantra for at least 45 minutes and I cannot stop! Ladies and gentleman: we officially have one of the dearest sweetest and hottest book couple and we’re introduced the best, charming, sexy, romantic, Alpha book- boyfriend Zafir ( Meaning of his name is victor, successful and triumphant one! Well, I may declare he triumphantly stole the most readers’ hearts!)I loved the way this book challenged social gender construct, looked at how living with anxiety can affect your life, dismantling the misconceptions surrounding romance novels and explored vulnerability that was masked. I hope the hint Dani Brown is taking is to stay far away from this review, because I do not, unfortunately, have many nice things to say.
