About this deal

verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{ Previous generations of Nextbase dash cams have been massively frustrating to use, often failing to provide a stable connection to transfer still images and video between phone and camera, but things have improved. The set-up process is still a little fiddly and time-consuming, and the Wi-Fi connection between devices sometimes fails, but we managed to retrieve some imagery and footage after a few attempts.

On one side, there's a rubber cover over a port for attaching a rear camera, while the other side sees a power button and an SD card slot. At the bottom of the touchscreen and, there's a red button that you can tap to make sure important footage is saved. The 622GW sensor should do this automatically if you hit the brakes relatively hard, but the physical button gives some extra reassurance - as well as allowing you to save footage like near-misses, which may not require harsh braking, for example. This is an unadjusted night capture, and while it’s a little dark, it’s not far off what I saw with the naked eye. The night colors are far more accurate than with any other dash cam I’ve reviewed. On the plus side, the low-light and extreme weather recording modes are great for capturing crisp footage in low light, heavy rain, fog etc. New image stabilisation tech also works well to smooth out footage on bumpy, potholed roads. However, the footage quality means files are large, so Nextbase suggests investing in a 128GB U3 SD card, which isn’t supplied. This is the same night capture (non-headlight) shown above but brightened somewhat to prove that the 622GW captures detail exceedingly well. Fortunately, What3Words is an excellent addition to the 622GW. The upgrade to the EmergencySOS feature on previous Nextbase dash cams allows drivers to easily tell emergency services where they are if they're involved in an accident or need help.a>

The geocode system means drivers can precisely pinpoint a location even if they don't know where they are or don't know the postcode. The GPS alternative means drivers can be found easily even in remote locations. But you'll still need to make the phone call for help. For more serious incidents, there's also EmergencySOS, which works even in those areas where phone signal and internet connectivity are a problem. Though 4K UHD (3860 x2160) burns through SD cards in a hurry (roughly four times 1080p), the 622GW’s captures have convinced me that, when done properly—it’s worth it. The detail in the 4K UHD captures is fantastic, the color is wide-gamut and accurate, and the motion compensation is first class. I could go on, but take a gander at the captures below and tell me if you don’t agree. IDGDiscover the range of Motormax reversing cameras. The reversing cameras are designed to fit a range of car models - shop online here today. Like most cameras on the market, the 622GW features a built-in G-Sensor, which will automatically save footage to the device if it detects a bump or crash. The sensitivity of this can be adjusted via the touchscreen display, but there’s also a handy Parking Mode that will automatically record footage if the G Sensor is activated, even when the camera isn’t drawing power. We’ve said it before, but dash cams are now so good at automatically capturing crisp footage in the case of an accident that manufacturers are looking for new ways to attract customers. Throwing in a bunch of driving assistance features and additional emergency technology seem to be the flavour of the year. style>
