About this deal

The course is somewhat changed from the original lay out that saw the first 13 Opens, it eventually had 24 Opens played over it. The original course had 12 holes and six of these greens are still in use today. Three holes are still laid out exactly as they were – the 2 nd, the 4 th and the 5 th – which are now the 17th, 3rd and 13 th respectively. Tom Morris was responsible for taking the course up to its modern 18 holes in 1882. The setting is lovely as you get views up and down the coast; we played in the spring and the gorse was in full bloom, which added to the beauty. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were first class. 3. Trump Turnberry (Ailsa)

Stand out holes are the par-5 12th and par-3 15th but I still love the questions asked off the tee on the 5th and the 6th as well as the "simple" par-3 13th." The course climbs over Gullane Hill in the same fashion as numbers 1 and 2 and you will get the same great views, and the same great turf, as its illustrious neighbours. With the Barry Burn snaking through the fairways, distance control is a must when attempting to tame this beast of a course. Despite the challenge, a must play course for any serious golfer.Remote and beguiling with outstanding coastal views. Barely 5,000 yards, but gorse, blind holes, water hazards, and elevation changes give it teeth. It pains us to drop it down as it has done nothing wrong, but the panel verdict was that it was a little too punchy in the top 50 last time. The course is the most northerly on the British mainland and certainly an effort to get to, however with the recent popularity of the North Coast 500 route, I am sure the course is seeing more and more visitors. The course is a blast with the rugged terrain and difficult conditions only being magnified by the usual winds.

Ladybank Golf Club is located in Fife, Scotland, less than 20 miles from St. Andrews. For that reason, the club is often overshadowed by the main jewels in the county. But it really shouldn’t be overlooked!

The Canny Crow

Iconic and steeped in history, you can walk in the footsteps of your heroes and attempt to recreate some of famous shots from past Open Championships.

Affordable options: Scotland offers a wide range of golf courses that cater to different budgets. Many courses provide affordable green fees, especially during weekdays, allowing golfers to enjoy a round of golf without breaking the bank. The stand out hole was the par 3 11th, across a gully, 197 yards to the middle of the green. I had to resort to hitting a driver as I didn’t know if I could make it in the strong wind, leaving it short wasn’t an option. I was pin high and mightily relieved. 6. Carnoustie (Championship) Muirfield is the home of The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and one of the finest links courses in the British Isles. Multiple Open Championships have been held at Muirfield with the tradition and history displayed throughout the clubhouse.

Old Tom Morris and James Braid were the creators of Lanark golf course and with that pedigree it’s no surprise that this is something pretty special. Much has been written about Royal Dornoch and the layout of the championship course and I would say that the links is as described, absolutely first class. There is plenty of elevation change, so you will definitely feel the walk in your legs when you finish, but you will have some great memories as well.

The 6,500-yard white tees are playable, but don’t hesitate to go to the 6,200-yard yellows for a really fun round. Renowned for its excellent greens and among the most fun golf courses in Britain. One of the biggest rises in the list is recognition of a course that has, perhaps, suffered in comparison with its sisters previously and would, if not in St Andrews, get more attention. An undoubted test and closest to the sea. Donald Steel’s upgrade isn’t loved by all, but this is a very, very fine links. 56. Dunaverty Southend, Argyll – DOWN 8The 1st tee is undeniably the happiest place on earth for golfers, it is impossible not to smile standing there awaiting the centuries old challenge." Glenbervie is a high-caliber parkland characterized by lush conditioning, first-rate bunkering and good variety among the holes. The best golf courses in Scotland are generally concentrated within six regions around the country: St. Andrews, East Lothian, Ayrshire, Kintyre, The Highlands, and Aberdeen. This doesn’t mean that there isn’t great golf to be found outside of these areas. Quite the contrary. But for the most part, Americans who are crossing the Atlantic on Scotland golf tours will primarily visit these regions. Scotland Golf Courses Map
