About this deal

That this house, with such a great line of perfumes, has gone out of business says just about everything re the level of absurdity we are currently experiencing. Enjoy was an early version of the so-called “nouvelles-chypres” of the time like Miss Dior Chérie (2005) and Narciso for Her (2004). These perfumes substituted a musky patchouli base for the verboten oakmoss of the traditional chypre. The style now seems dated and era-specific, but Enjoy was one of the more successful iterations of the style. Zanon, Johanna " La face cachée de la Lune: les ateliers de couture de la maison Jean Patou dans l’entre-deux-guerres", in Apparence(s) 7 (2017). An aesthete and lover of literature, the couturier named his clothes (coats such as "Il viendra” - He will come -, "Pour lui” - For him -, evening dresses called "Belle ténébreuse” - Mysterious Beauty, "Vierge folle“ - Wild Girl -, "Candide") and created perfumes, notably unisex, in collaboration with Baccarat and Van Cleef who designed the bottles. The 1929 crisis unfortunately hit the house as well.

It's the end of an era, for all those who recognize Joy as an icon of perfumery, but also the end of many other scents, like 1000 and Sublime, pieces of olfaction that are a part of so many people's memories and personal stories. Maybe there just aren't enough buyers of these fragrances in the world. Maybe their time has passed and they have become fragrance zombies. As for me, I think that Joy is just as timeless and important as Chanel Nº5. But what was once the "Costliest Perfume in The World" seems to have lost its market value, at least for its current owners, LVMH. In the 1920s, women were breaking the mould with their wardrobe, and Jean Patou was at their side. He proposed a whole new way to experience garments and the idea of leisure and relaxation. Freedom, in short.... Jean Patou shared romances with Louise Brooks and members of the European aristocracy but never married anyone. What once was, no longer is. Unpopular opinion, as I’m thankful for being able to witness this fragrance, but it has no place on the fragrance shelves any longer.

Designer Parfums appoints its first in-house perfumer". cosmeticsbusiness.com. 21 November 2011. Archived from the original on 10 May 2012 . Retrieved 14 September 2012. Jean patou is soon becoming one of my favorite perfume houses,it's a shame that it's perfumes are so difficult to find here Joy Forever is a very pleasant peach-centred floral. It smells a little antiquated, possibly due to the fact that it is trying to appeal to wearers of the original Joy. I would describe it as a naturally-sweetened, mature floral fragrance with dominant notes of bergamot, peach, marigold, jasmine, rose and sandalwood.

Elegance is simplicity. Joy is elegance in a bottle. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. In 1925 Patou launched his perfume business with three fragrances created by Henri Alméras. [4] In 1928, Jean Patou created "Huile de Chaldée", the first sun tan lotion. Jean Patou revolutionized fashion by liberating the female figure. The couturier designed dresses to wear without a corset and invented sportswear well ahead of his time, making tennis champion, Suzanne Lenglen, his first muse. ok that's the first time i ever try any Jean Patou fragrance, i can sense a strength of harsh character in the over all concept though, i can feel it, it is present even if in this intended to be mild scent,Jean Patou ( pronounced [ʒɑ̃ pa.tu]; 27 September 1887 – 8 March 1936) was a French fashion designer, and founder of the Jean Patou brand. The bright aldehyde chirped loudly and made a deafening sound, like an alarm, to make people around you retreat far away, so as not to be impacted by the aftermath. Distance produces beauty. There's not really any other way I can describe my experience with this fragrance; I love it! I'm not sure what it is about it, there's just something entirely magical about it - the aldehydes just do something to me. Like with most aldehyde fragrances, it makes my tummy feel so strange. If anyone knows why this may be, feel free to explain it because I just don't get it... it's a bit of a fun mystery. While I was out perfume browsing recently, I sprayed some of this on a card, some of it strayed (or rather, crawled) onto my fingers, then I forgot about it as I drifted along the perfume shelves.
