About this deal

As an aside i was chatting with my mechanic other day and mentioned that i was looking at VW's Quantum Oil. He responded by telling me that Quantum oil is of a poor quality and that id be better off using the Comma again - Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this, as nearly everyone on here, UKMKIV's etc seem to unanimously recommend Quantum oil :S Quantum Long Life III has now been approved to BMW Long-life04 approvals, whilst also meeting MB specifications 229.31 and MB 229.51

QFX provides significant performance benefits compared to conventional oils. These benefits include the highest performance for the entire oil drain period, improved fuel economy, A premium, high-performance, low-ash engine oil for petrol and diesel engines; specially developed for long-life service intervals and vehicles with diesel particulate fillters. As well as being approved for use in VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche and ŠKODA, Quantum Longlife III 5W-30 is also suitable for use in any vehicle where Quantum LongLife III 5W-30 fully synthetic engine oil is formulated to keep engines and exhaust after-treatment devices, especially diesel particulate filters, free from depositsgain the full benefit and to fully utilise the QFX Technology, it is recommended to change the oil completely when changing to the Quantum grade. ACEA C3 is the requirement. It should only be used in diesel engines running on low sulphur fuel. Quantum Longlife III 5W-30 will mix with other oil but to Modern engine oils tend to either be fully synthetic or a blend of mineral and synthetic oil. Synthetic is the best option for an engine because it can be manufactured to a higher standard. This is the most expensive option, however, because it costs more to produce.

Both are fully synthetic as far as i know, which is the big requirement for the 1.8T engine, as such i was wondering if i would benefit by using the LongLife III oil on the fixed schedule - or would this just be overcomplicating things for no real gains? Quantum Longlife III 5W-30 is a premium, high-performance engine oil designed for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles and manufactured using Quantum QFX technology.I've got a 2006 Audi S6. It's done over 100,000 miles and has been serviced according to the longlife schedule. I've only just bought it but at my next recent service I plan on switching it to annual due to the limited miles I do. I also intend on doing 6 monthly oil changes. However, i got to thinking that if it is intended for long life use, surely the LongLife III 5w30 must be of a higher quality and durability than the Platinum? No longer available in a can as pictured. The Oil is now is a cardboard cube with a inner plastic dispensable bag.

Quantum LongLife III 5W-30 also meets the requirements of most of the earlier Volkswagen oil specifications which means that it is suitable also for many older gasoline and diesel engines A premium high-performance low-ash engine oil developed for petrol and diesel engines, especially developed for long-life service intervals and vehicles with diesel particulate filters. Designed for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. Manufactured using Quantum QFX® technology. Suitable for use in any vehicle where ACEA C3 is the requirement. Should Only be used in diesel engines running on low-sulphur fuel. reduced wear and easier cold starts even at very low temperatures. Quantum Longlife III 5W-30 satisfies the requirements of vehicles fitted with exhaust gas aftertreatment devices such as SCR and DPF.Prolonging the life of these components reduces running costs, minimises emissions and protects the environment Prompted by a discussion here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... about the cost of an oil service, I was wondering what your collective opinion is with regards the choice of oil for a performance Audi.
