Many of our larger filter coffee machines have the function to brew smaller amounts of coffee, 2-5 cups, whilst maintaining the great taste of a full batch. This feature is called AromaControl and only uses half the power to create the same full flavoured perfectly brewed coffee. This function is great for households with varying coffee needs. The type of coffee filter that you use can easily be as important to the end taste of your coffee as the coffeemaker or water that is used. There are many factors that need to be considered when choosing a coffee filter. BALANCING – this topmost band is thinner still and more highly perforated. This helps to encourage a balanced taste and aroma with no bitterness. Preference of coffee strength varies between our customers and their households, to ensure we meet all of your needs many of our filter coffee machines include adjustable coffee strength. You can easily switch between mild, medium, and strong, when you want a more or less intense coffee experience. I imagine that this new filter is designed to work with a full pot of coffee (but cannot comment on that); however, we use the machine to make 1-3 cups at a time and we are simply not going to be able to use these filters at all - it would cost us twice as much in coffee and we would still not be satisfied! Typically, basket filters fit all six to twelve cup basket style coffeemakers. There are also “Junior” size baskets which are available for four to six cup coffeemakers.Finer grind coffees have a larger surface area exposed to the water so it provides a richer cup of coffee. Some permanent filters also transfer foreign taste and odor to your coffee. Pale brown in colour, these unbleached Melitta coffee filters are made from sustainably sourced paper, and are 100% biodegradable – you can even throw them on your garden compost heap. It should be noted that not all paper filter performs the same. Avoid cheap filters! Cheaper paper filters can impact the taste of your coffee by either transferring foreign flavors and/or via over extraction or under extraction. Other disadvantages of cheap paper are they can easily result in a mess by either bursting or clogging. Easy Clean-Up -- Once used, paper filters are easily removed from the coffee maker and then disposed. Permanent filters must be thoroughly washed out after each use.

The shape of the filter that you need to use is dictated by the shape of the filter holder within your coffeemaker. There are two different shapes of holders/filters: Cone (round top gradually tapering down to the bottom) and Basket (circular holder/filter with a flat bottom). Our filter coffee machines vary in capacity to suit the needs of all households, some can produce up to 10 cups of coffee for busier households, others have a smaller capacity making them ideal for compact kitchens.

So I continued by assuming that I had put in either too little coffee or too much milk and tried again. However, after 4 such experiments, I found that I needed to put in TWICE as much coffee to get even a remotely acceptable cup (still without the full flavour I appreciate and am accustomed to). Improved extraction results from the concentration of coffee on the bottom of the filter which then creates turbulence as the water hits the grounds thus creating saturation over the entire surface area of the ground coffee. Application

REFINING – slightly thinner and with more perforations, this band allows an even and consistent brew time as the coffee develops its flavour. Potentially Healthier -- Scientific studies have indicated that paper coffee filters play a crucial role in eliminating the cholesterol raising factor of coffee. Permanent filters, on the other hand, allow the cholesterol raising oils to filter into the cup. Although filter coffee machines are seen as more simplistic there are many options and features to consider when selecting the ideal fit for your household. Jug type Natural brown filters are not processed to achieve a whiter color. With premium filter paper, such as those by Melitta, there is no difference in taste from using white versus natural brown versus bamboo. The choice is only a matter of preference.
