About this deal

I didn’t play RuneQuest growing up in the 80s, and 90s like my UK-centric group of players did. It wasn’t on my radar until I received the core book as a Christmas gift and the opportunity to play. While I enjoyed the experience, I found the core book daunting, despite being well written. I simply struggled to comprehend some of the game’s basic elements. I could have really used a starter set to help break it all down into bite-sized bits. The question is, does the RuneQuest Start Set do that? Is it a good introduction to the game, the setting, and the broader world of Glorantha? If you've wanted to try out RuneQuest, this is the product for you. If you're a GM wanting to get into something more about a deep, profound spiritual world than killing monsters and taking their stuff, buy it." Ready-made Adventurers (14): Ready-to-use, pre-generated adventurers for you and your fellow players.

A gentle learning curve for Glorantha... I have no idea what more Chaosium could do to make the game easier to get into short of sending out RuneQuest referees to go door-to-door offering introductory sessions." This enthusiasm made it clear that we needed to make a Starter Set a priority for RuneQuest and for the company as a whole. So sitting in a small table in the middle of the teeming exhibition hall, as thousands of game players wandered past, together we established the following creative and design goals: Then we have the problems that become paintfully clear when you start playing, at least if everyone is new to the game. The pregen sheets are very pretty, but that's it. Here comes just a few problems we had with them: Learn to play in the best way possible—by playing! “The Battle of Dangerford” is a single-player scenario designed to teach you the rules of the game as you play. Take on the role of Vasana as she joins her Sartarite brothers and sisters in an epic clash against the invading Lunar Empire.I was honestly on the verge of walking away from RuneQuest Glorantha until I received this Starter Set. It has absolutely changed my understanding of the basic rules and setting to where I feel far more grounded and ready to take on Glorantha! I am now absolutely smitten with RuneQuest Glorantha as a direct result of the RuneQuest Starter Set. The scenario is set several years later in a different political landscape than previous editions. Experienced players should still find this adventure refreshing and fun.

The RuneQuest Starter Set comes in a dense sturdy box which weighs two-and-a-half pounds! It designed to introduce new players and new Game Masters to RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha to that end includes all of the rules necessary to play the content in the RuneQuest Starter Set, provides an introduction to Glorantha and the area where the three scenarios it comes with are set, fourteen pre-generated adventurers, a sheaf of handouts and play aids, and a set of polyhedral dice. The latter come in an appropriately bronze colour since RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha is a Bronze Age roleplaying game, but whilst they both fetching and obvious as soon as you open the box, they are not the starting point for the RuneQuest Starter Set. No, that would be the cover sheet, which in turn yells out ‘Read Me First!’ and ‘What’s In It's got a dash of Conan The Barbarian, a little bit of Greek mythology, and it has a really fun rules system that's actually been used in a tonne of different games." RuneQuest is a fantasy roleplaying game set in the world of Glorantha, played by two or more players and a single gamemaster. Players in RuneQuest are adventurers, heroes who must face the challenges laid before them by the gamemaster, who describes the world and its incredible inhabitants. Welcome to the Battle of Dangerford digital soloquest. This online tool lets you play through the Battle of Dangerford solo adventure digitally. There’s no no need for dice, paper, or pencils, although, you can follow along using physical acessories if you wish.

The next few chapters of the rules booklet by and large contains similar material as the core rulebook, although the text has been shortened in many places. In some cases, this is actually beneficial for long-time RuneQuest players and gamemasters: the core rulebook has, in my opinion, many editing problems, so the shorter and simpler rules of the starter set help understand the “rules as intended”. In many other cases, however, the same editing problems persist and new players are bound to have the same slew of questions as everybody else. Let’s point these people to the Well of Daliath! Resurrecting RuneQuest: An Investigation by the Tales of the Reaching Moon Editorial Staff by Michael OBrien (2017) In this scenario, you take on the role of Vasana, Daughter of Farnan (one of the pre-generated adventurers)*. She’s a formidable hero, capable warrior, trusted leader, and dedicated initiate of the Orlanth Adventurous cult. Vasana has allied herself with Kallyr Starbrow, leader of the Sartarite rebellion against the Lunar Empire. Kallyr is about to lead her troops against the Lunar Empire’s war leader, Fazzur Wideread, at Dangerford. Dangerford is a critical crossing on the strategically important river known as “The Creek.” With sides evenly matched, even a single stone could tip the scales one way or the other. Depending on how Vasana carries herself, she alone could sway the battle and change the fate of Dragon Pass.
