About this deal

Lux is Brams girlfriend and together they are known as the power couple of Manchester. And that’s just how Lux likes it. The rest of the cast, mostly her sisters, seemed to be just a bunch of manic pixie dream girls, too ethereal to be human and too ridiculous to be human either. I didn't particularly care for the bunker thing. And the fact that these doomsday preppers even go to normal public school was frankly unbelievable. I doubt literally the entire premise. Last girls was amazing from beginning to end, the characters were all amazing and definitely surprised me more than once. They made me laugh and they definitely made me cry. Demetra’s writing style is that amazing😭

This book was not at all what I expected - and I was pleasantly surprised by that. And it's one that I'm finding really hard to rate. Personally, I'm not a fan of doomsday preppers. I don't understand their extreme mindsets and so it was really hard for me to connect with Honey throughout the book. She's also very abrasive and pushes people away, so she didn't make it easy. But what I really liked about The Last Girl is that it kept me guessing right until the end. I love when stories do that. There’s movie nights and new romance budding as she navigates her way through life as a secret club member. But there’s something more going on beneath the surface. Anna Della Subin of The New York Times praised the book as a primer on Yazidi religious beliefs. [7] Ashutosh Bhardwaj wrote for the Indian newspaper The Financial Express that Murad's book "vividly details the customs and life of Yazidism" and that she "cites instances how the Yazidi stories were misinterpreted by the Sunnis who termed them 'devil worshippers '". [8]The author, even after all the torments, understands that this How can human beings treat other human beings so cruelly? how can other human beings stand by idle when so much pain is being inflicted on others? Even knowing the rules doesn’t always help. Sometimes you are up against something for which it’s hard to be prepared. But the magic happens when they're all together because I completely LOVED their sisterhood, the way they protect each other, the concern and love is remarkable, and it made me feel so good to read a sister dynamic like this one, simply I loved it. We have more secondary characters but honestly, I don't feel that any of them has a great impact other than being there as a love interest, and I'm sorry to say that, but it's something that almost always happens to me, and that's that I didn't enjoy the romance as I expected, it seemed to me that it developed hastily. Nadia Murad and her family lived in false hope that ISIS would leave their poor little village alone. They were not prepared for the extermination of all the men, the kidnapping of the boys trained to be human shields in the fundamentalist war. The girls and women are passed around and treated like sex slaves and assaulted physically, emotionally and sexually over and over and over again. Nadia Murad goes into detail about her time in captivity and her escape and finally into her life's work as a human rights activist and raising awareness of the recent genocide of the Yazidi people.

a b Bhardwaj, Ashutosh (June 10, 2018). "Memoir of a sex slave: Autobiography of Yazidi woman enslaved by ISIS". The Financial Express . Retrieved November 11, 2018. The girls live on a compound with a bunch of other preppers. Men and women, boys and girls. The compound is separated into two two sections: The Burrow, where the men reside with the weapons and artillery, and The Nest, where the women reside and grow food for the compound and tend to the animals. Every day the girls are required to take care of the animals that are used for food, to train with the rest of the compound, and to remember the most vital rule of all:Through the story we get a lot more depth to his character and I actually found myself quite intrigued by him. The pope also recommended reading Iraqi Yazidi Nobel Prize winner Nadia Murad’s book, The Last Girl, which he said he had read, commenting that “everything that the world thinks about women is concentrated there . . . However, the world cannot function without women,” he insisted’ La Croix International Sadly that wasn’t the case and I’m left yearning for more! If Goldy wrote a sequel, I’d be first in line to buy it. Honey has always taken care of her younger sister’s as they’ve moved around from one state to another. When she finds her younger sister Birdie, the rebel, caught up in something dangerous she starts to wonder if the compound they’ve lived on with their mother for the past year may not be what it seems.

It’s a story that unfolds as thriller, a mystery about a prepper community that gradually appears to be a dangerous group with some dark plans, but this is decidedly a contemporary novel with superb character development. The entire story also wouldn’t be complete without a family secret and the ending encapsulates some of my most positive feelings about ‘Last Girls’; nothing cheesy, just full-on satisfied it ends that way. Becoming entangled in a secret society that worships all things horror, she starts to feel like she’s where she belongs. The members welcomed her into the group and from there she became part of the team. Our story focuses on new girl Rachel who’s started at an exclusive school where her mum teaches. She is not naturally sociable, and the trauma of killing a masked invader to her old home is something Rachel does not want to share with anyone. She is befriended by Saundra who is desperate to fill her in on the school gossip, but then Rachel finds herself part of a secret club. I always knew the Islamic State (ISIS) was committing atrocities around the world, but never knew how much.

Honey, Blue, and Birdie haven’t had a choice but to live in The Nest and although they feel like weirds among their peers at school, they are tightly bonded to each other. They have been brought up to follow strict rules and guidelines, to not trust Outsiders, and know how to survive in all kinds of situations (without the constant use of technology, and while also not knowing the full truth about their past). This book should make us all angry and full of shame that we stand and watch genocide and worse, much WORSE, unthinkably WORTH and do nothing or extremely little. Courageous . . . Anyone who wants to understand the so called Islamic State should read’ The Economist Rachel is the main, main character. The story is told from her perspective and we go through the plot by her side. Balkissoon, Denise (November 13, 2017). "She escaped Islamic State captivity. Now, Nadia Murad is giving a voice to persecuted Yazidis". The Globe and Mail . Retrieved November 11, 2018.

The Last Girl was simultaneously released in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands on October 31, 2017, with rights sold in twenty other territories. [2] According to the Associated Press, Murad noted in a statement "that she had lost numerous friends and family members to ISIS and hoped her story would 'influence world leaders to act '". [3] The release followed the October 2017 Iraqi–Kurdish conflict. [4] Critical reception [ edit ] The Last Girl has major Scream vibes in my opinion with the friend groups and some of the events within the story, especially near the end. A rich kid who likes to break away from the crowd and do her own thing whilst also playing into the trope of mean girl, Felicity is the resident “bitch” of the group. There’s also really good descriptions throughout the book that transport you into their world. I could clearly imagine myself being there which I love when getting lost in a story. Oh my goodness! I can’t rave about this book more! This book is so relevant to how I’m feeling these days during quarantine. I’m thinking I may need to build a compound of my own and invite all my favorite people to help run it. We’ll each help build a community together! We’ll do some gardening, baking/cooking, fitness training, survival training, and tend to a myriad of animals raised for producing all the goods we’ll need. Let’s go off the beaten path together!Overall, I loved this book. I want it to become a movie, I want to play Birdie, no I cannot act, but I have that “ f**k you” look ready and the hair to match, so bring it on. Read this book. Get into the culty/ Dooms Day/ Apocalypse/ prepper lifestyle with me and let's go be weird together. Although she’s portrayed as a mean girl, there are a lot of layers to her character which we explore. Bram Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher Tor Teen (Macmillan-Tor/Forge) for providing me with the digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
