About this deal

Being able to decide on the strength of your coffee from the standard single shot of 7g, up to 11g I do think is a good feature, and it's very simple to toggle between these three by simply turning the dial to either 1 bean (7g), 2 bean (9g) or 3 bean (11g). It can make up to 6 different beverages: ristretto, espresso, espresso lungo, coffee, americano, hot water. But regardless of this history, both companies are currently extremely successful with their coffee machines, and both have a large range – so to try to determine which is best we'd have to do this on a machine by machine basis.

Anyway, the Cadorna Prestige has four user profiles for saving your favorite drinks. Best of all, the machine gives you the option to save a drink each time you make changes. I see this feature as key in preventing arguments between over-caffeinated family members! Aroma Intensity

Why You Should Get It

Simple espresso memory: Re-set volumes by simply pressing and holding the espresso or lungo button. Semi automatic espresso machines are then split into two categories too, well – three if you also count commercial espresso machines, but we're talking about home coffee machines here. This machine can deliver up to 9 different beverages: ristretto, espresso, espresso lungo, coffee, americano, cappuccino, café au lait, frothed milk and hot water. Commercial and home barista machines, these contain lots of holes, and the coffee has to be ground much finer than with most other coffee brewing methods, and also much more precisely, with each espresso machine requiring a different grind size with each different coffee bean, this involves a process known as “dialing in”, where we keep altering the grind size until we reach the sweet spot.

As I said in my best bean to cup coffee machines post, if I were going to use a bean to cup coffee machine, it would probably be the Gaggia Magenta Plus, mainly due to the pro steam wand. When the debate is about controls and displays, the Cadorna Barista Plus is a clear winner. With a vivid TFT display, this device is quite simple to use. What’s more, you can make baristas and espressos based on the preferences of the users. Gaggia produce all of the above types of coffee machines, so I'm going to split their machines up into the various categories, to make it easier for you to dive straight into the most appropriate type of coffee machine for you. I’d really like it if it did like 15ml shots and/or 18g shots. As it is, I do double 30ml/11.g shots for most milk drinks to get the strength. If I was looking to buy an espresso machine now, and I had two hundred quid, this is where I'd be dropping that cash.

Directly from the Gaggia tradition, the stainless steel steam wand is thought to make you relive, at home, the authentic barista rituals. Thanks to its shape, you can use different kinds of milk jugs and always have an impeccable milk froth. It also dispenses hot water for teas and infusions. This is a gorgeous-looking machine, it has a real glass front, so it's easy to wipe clean, and the same glass front covers the touchscreen which makes it the easiest & most responsive touch screen I've used. Wait, did I say there was only one true Gaggia home barista espresso machine? I lied ;-). OK, this is still the Classic Pro, but it's the limited edition “Acrobat” version. These are numbered limited edition versions carrying the special acrobat barista artwork. I believe there are a few of these left, and at this discounted price, personally, if I was buying a classic pro, I'd buy the Acrobat version. These two options are the cappuccinatore option (usually these versions are referred to simply as either “deluxe” or “milk”, and the carafe versions which are usually referred to as either “prestige” or “one touch”. I've used it, and it's fine for the money. It does have some competition, machines like the Swan Retro (which is a machine that sells under various different brand names) are a bit cheaper, and do a similar job. As part of this Gaggia Cadorna Prestige review, let’s take a look at how the machine fares in comparison with some other fully automatic coffee makers on the market. Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Cadorna Barista Plus This machine has a lot more going for it than this single feature, but to have a pro wand on a bean to cup coffee machine is almost unheard of, so this is what makes this machine particularly special. This is actually a really clever feature that Gaggia don't talk that much about in a lot of their blurb. The Gaggia bean to cup machines have an inbuilt mechanism that allows them to detect the pressure required to auto tamp the coffee prior to pulling the shot, and the machines learn from this and apply this to the next shot.I’m happy to report that the Cadorna Prestige passes the latte macchiato test with flying colors – the milk is dispensed first, followed by the espresso, resulting in a multi-layered milk beverage that would bring tears to the eyes of the most stoic Italian.
