About this deal

I then applied the transfers, spraying varnish over them. (This is the last bit of varnish until the end, I swear). Because messy drybrushing is needed to paint the pelts, I suggest finishing them before continuing with the rest of the model. Don’t worry if you make any mistakes. Just let it dry and tidy up with Russ Grey. Step 7 – Apply Edge Highlights DO you have a picture of the three colours layered together as you describe? If so I'd be interested to see it.

Tyrnak and Fenrir - Tyrnak and Fenrir are the two Fenrisian Wolf companions of the current Great Wolf, Logan Grimnar. Tyrnak and Fenrir are used to pull the ancient anti-grav war chariot Stormrider. Necrons: The Necrons are an army of robotic warriors that have a sleek, metallic look. Fenrisian Grey can be used to paint the metallic parts of their armor, giving them a smooth and consistent finish. It can also be used to paint their weapons and machinery, giving them a cool and menacing look. I first airbrushed the tank solid VMC Khaki, the same color as the fatigues of my guardsmen. I then varnished over it. I didn’t have time to run to the store, so I turned to the trusty old internet for help. And let me tell you, the internet did not disappoint. I found this crazy chart that listed all the known equivalents for different paint colors. Highlight the face masks and squad markings with Ulthuan Grey (Optional: Add a final highlight of White Scar.

Aquila & Gold Details – Base with Retributor Armour, wash with Agrax Earthshade and highlight with Liberator Gold. Of course this scheme works on Guardsmen, but would you believe it works on tanks too? It’s true! Vehicles Other stuff: The yellow wings and aquilas on their pauldrons and uniforms were painted the same way as on the weapons. The skulls in the middle of the pauldrons were Zandri Dust, Ushabti Bone, and a Corax White highlight. Caution stripes and yellow bits of the plasma gun were Yriel Yellow with a Flash Gitz Yellow highlight. For the officer’s coat, I just painted it the same way as my Valhallan coats above. When working with Fenrisian Grey paint, there are a variety of red, yellow and white Citadel Colour paints that can be used to create interesting and dynamic color combinations. Here are a few options that can be used together with Fenrisian Grey: Now here is the area you can put a little flair and extra colors. For my specialists, I wanted them to feel like part of my army, so I kept largely the same color palette, just adding dashes of other colors into the mix, and changing the locations to make them look special without making them look like they don’t belong.

Highlight the pants, sleeves and bedrolls with Zandri Dust, followed by a smaller highlight of Ushabti Bone (Optional: Add a final highlight of Screaming Skull). Tempestus Scion models are very detailed and subsequently tedious to paint. I don’t advise going beyond “Battle Ready” if you’ll be doing a lot of them, but if you insist… Icetooth - The Wolf Lord Harald Deathwolf rides a monstrous Fenrisian Grey Wolf into battle. During a confrontation with the Renegade Wolf Lord Svane Vulfbad in 913.M41, a shard of the Traitor's Frost Axe was imbedded within the cybernetic jaw of Harald's Thunderwolf. Thus, the beast gained the name Icetooth which he has carried ever since. I'm a massive fan of the baby-blue space wolves, been painting them this colour for maybe 20+ years now, so most folks would paint The Fang and then highlight with Fenrisian Grey, I use that as my main layer and then do some very minimal highlights. The Fang, Russ Grey, and Fenrisian Grey are super easy though. No mixing, just throw them layers down. I based the model with Astrogranite, adding a couple of small tufts while the texture was still wet. Once dry I washed the base, including tufts, with patchy blobs of different green Citadel washes – Athonian Camoshade and Biel-Tan Green. Once these had dried I drybrushed the base, again making sure to catch the tufts, with some light colours – I honestly can’t remember what I used, but my guesses are on some combo of Dawnstone, Ulthuan Grey, Karak Stone, and Screaming Skull. Author’s Note: I painted my Vostroyans 12 years ago and some things have changed. More spray paint colors are available but older Citadel Colors like Rotting Flesh paint are no more. You can substitute with Putrid Green from Coat D’Arms or a slightly greener paint in the form of Ogryn Camo. The scratches and chips are done by painting an area with Rhinox Hide and then painting Ironbreaker on top. Be sure to leave Rhinox Hide showing around the silver to give the impression of worn paint. The origin of the Fenrisian Wolves is something of a mystery. The Space Wolves have stated that these creatures did not exist on Fenris until the arrival of the world's first Human colonists. However, they also cryptically state that "there are no wolves on Fenris." What this refers to is unknown.

Axe Head – Base with Stormhost Silver, glaze with thinned Calth Blue (This used to be Guilliman Blue, but GW Don’t make it anymore), stipple White Scar as frosting and edge highlight with White Scar. Face & Beard – Paint the whole face Cadian Fleshtone. Layer with Kislev Flesh. Highlight with Flayed One Flesh. Red badges: Mephiston Red, Nuln Oil in the eyes and such, and Evil Sunz Scarlet highlights. With officers I tried to incorporate more red in sashes and such, painted the same way. VehiclesWhite Armor: Like the rank and file Valhallans, I painted these whole models in Steel Legion Drab first. The armor was based with Ulthuan Grey (my secret weapon, holy shit this color is so useful) and down in two coats. I washed the recesses with Agrax Earthshade, then highlighted up with Corax White. As for the other suggestions in the paint chart, Coat d'Arms matches the old range and not the new range so that's not going to help. The only other option is Reaper... I actually own that Reaper paint but I don't have Fenrisian Grey to compare for you The Ciaphas Cain series is a collection of books chronicling the life and deeds of Commissar Ciaphas Cain, with the stories presented as taken from Cain’s personal notes and collected following his death. Cain’s an unreliable narrator, and extremely self-centered, though Cain himself never becomes someone you hate. There are ten books in the series, plus a number of short stories if you’re looking for more. Mephiston Red: This is a bright, cool red that can be used as a highlight color on the armor and weapons of figures painted with Fenrisian Grey. It can also be used to create a complementary color scheme. The Thunderwolf was one of the ancient wolves that Russ fought and vanquished. So vast was the Thunderwolf that its growl was the thunder and the glint of its fangs the lightning, but Russ was louder and more fearsome still. The Thunderwolf ran from Russ and continues to run to this day, forever circling Fenris. It can still be seen as a constellation in the night sky, fleeing across the heavens.
