About this deal

Rules for squats made the transition to the Codex Imperialis booklet in the 2nd edition Warhammer 40k box set, but they never again received a Codex or new models. Jervis Johnson wrote on the Specialist Games Forums that the design team simply weren’t fired up enough by the narrative behind the Squats to design a new Codex or new models. Soon enough, the squats were cut from the lore. Their fate was rather ignominious – their homeworlds were eaten by Tyranids. Si: This episode is the first of three Crusade games that we’ll be featuring on Battle Report . We’re following the exploits of a Leagues of Votann Oathband over the course of a narrative campaign – a few of the key battles of which we’ll be showing on Warhammer+. For our first episode, we’ll start with 25 Power Level a side – Combat Patrol sized.

The Leagues spend much time scouting alien worlds, seeking caches of valuable resources to keep their forges lit and their Ancestor Cores protected. Hernkyn Pioneers lead these exploratory forces, ranging over any terrain with their hovering magna-coil bikes. In battle, their speed is matched only by their destructive power – and the undeniable style of those fur-lined coats. SagitaurMy force hails from the Greater Thurian League* – the white-and-teal Kin you’ve seen plenty of so far – as they’re renowned for exploration, resource acquisition, and military conquest. Their League Custom, Ruthless Efficiency , grants them re-rolls and an edge when contesting objectives. This guy is your powerhouse and is made of pure stubborn. Kahls are similar but this guy just takes it up another level. He is hard to kill, you'd have to focus him down, and has some really nasty weapon options for close combat. If you can keep him from getting shot off the table too soon, he'll take many enemies down with him. Cthonian Beserkers So far the only named character in the Leagues of Votann army, Ûthar the Destined is astoried Kâhl (leader) described by GW as the “most accomplished hero of the Greater Thurian League” (the largest of the army’s League subfactions). His neat sword is called the Blade of the Ancestors. Games Workshopspent much of Summer 2022 previewingshiny new Leagues of Votann models–starting in April, when it first announced the new faction was on the way, through to November, when the Votann’s standalone model kits started rolling out into stores.

The Kinhost’s forges are tended by the Brôkhyr, a guild of master makers and menders. Iron-masters are the best of their kind, leading repair and recovery efforts on the battlefield aided by an entourage of Ironkyn and E-COG repair crews.* Brôkhyr Thunderkyn Much of the history of the old-school Squats (more on them below) has made it intoWarhammer 40k’s brand new, refreshed Leagues of Votann lore. Just like the Squats, the Leagues are the descendants of early human space colonists and prospectors who settled in the hazardous, mineral-rich galactic core. But there are some important differences.Games Workshop hasn’t announced when the Leagues of Votann Codex for Warhammer 40k 10th edition is due out. It won’t be before Summer 2024, as GW has already confirmed the Codex releases up until Spring. The Einhyr Hearthguard are nothing short of the Leagues’ finest troops, protected by bulky exo-armour and carrying an array of powerful weapons . They have both the skills and equipment to tussle with the enemy’s best, emerging victorious in a hail of bolts and blades.* Brôkhyr Iron-master That said, I don’t want to go too deep on the stats of each unit with 10th edition so close at hand. It wouldn’t be very useful. So I’ll just give you an overall impression of what they are and what they’re good at. Uthar The Destined

The Kin are a clone race of resilient and pragmatic warriors, who together form the ancient Leagues of Votann. Given wisdom and purpose by their ancient Ancestor Cores, armed and armoured by the pounding pistons of the forge, they scour the galaxy for the resources to expand their works and overcome any foe. Hernkyn Pioneers roam the battlefield on magna-rail bikes, scouting a path for doughty Hearthkyn Warriors and augmented Cthonian Beserks to secure their objectives – guided by battle-tested Kâhls such as the legendary Ûthar The Destined. Meanwhile, the modular design of Kin weaponry, and the layered armour plates of Exo Armour, resemble technology we’ve seen on House Van Saar models, something the Necromundan gangers can only create using a secret, highly radioactive, STC system.

Berzerkers on foot = 10 Warriors base cost. Totally swapable and equally possible, depending on how generous GW feels. I've had fun overall, but in my 4th Votann game, I started to get tired of that three of my 4 units provide almost no value. I don't think that I'll play Combat Patrol with Votann anytime soon, unless they get relevant buffs. Beserks were just not really useful, they are super slow and die so fast. They hit hard if they get to melee, but it's soooo hard to make it happen. They are a pain in your ass, I didn't enjoy playing with them too much. They do hit hard, but not hard enough to make the hassle worth it. Equip your MkVI Space Marines with the iconography of the Death Guard with thematic sets of helmets and shoulder pads, giving a brutal, industrial feel to the smooth MkVI Corvus armour.
