About this deal

Review Summary: The Sisters of Mercy sophomore effort finds a band completely changed but still in top form. The music press reported the break-up of the band on 2 November 1985, announcing that "the Sisters of Mercy were down to singer Andrew Eldritch and his faithful drum machine [ Doktor Avalanche] this week after guitarist Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams left the band. Although this has scuppered recording plans for a new album this month, Andrew now intends to record the same album in the New Year and could well be using Wayne as a session guitarist. [...] Andrew has also approached former Gun Club bassist Patricia Morrison—now in Fur Bible—to play on the album, but it's not yet known whether Andrew will continue with the name Sisters of Mercy." [5] Eldritch had no intention to carry on under the disformed band's name, as members who left to form the Mission had an agreement with him that the name the Sisters of Mercy would be used by no one after the break-up. [6] In late 1997, the contract with EastWest was terminated, after the company agreed to accept material recorded under the SSV name instead of two albums for which the Sisters of Mercy had contractual obligations. The company agreed to accept the material (techno-like droning featuring mumbling vocals by Andrew Eldritch, without drums) without listening to it first. The recordings were never officially released and circulated only through pirate MP3s. In 1996, the band was revived for several gigs supporting the Sex Pistols, with Bruhn's place initially taken by Chris Sheehan. During subsequent tours, the guitarist spot would rotate between Sheehan and Mike Varjak. We just wanted to get played on the radio – once. The Holy Grail was to get on the John Peel show. I’m a thug, musically – self-taught. And at first we were awful, but being awful helps you to be different.

In 1995, Eldritch remixed two songs for the German group Die Krupps and appeared on the Sarah Brightman single " A Question of Honour". The Sisters of Mercy announce 2017 European Tourdates". Post-Punk.com. 23 May 2017 . Retrieved 10 February 2018. While the lyrics are ostensibly an indictment of the George H. W. Bush administration, I'm more charmed by non-sequiturs like " Here come the golden oldies, here come the Hezbollah" from Doctor Jeep or " Long distance information just tell me where the manholes steam" from Detonation Boulevard. Online – none whatsoever. At gigs, it depends if I’m in a good mood or not. If I am and I’ve got time, I might hang out in the foyer and have a chat, or I’ll go to a local bar afterwards and sit down with people. On November 13th, 1987, The Sisters of Mercy released their second album Floodland—considered by many to be a step sideways in the band’s musical direction; it’s definitely a nice wandering off the beaten path of Dr. Avalanche. After the end of The Sisters of Mercy MKII, with Wayne Hussey, Gary Marx and Craig Adams— Andrew Eldritch initially formed The Sisterhood to keep others from ever using that particular name; releasing a full-length album from The Sisterhood, along with a planned 12 inch EP called This Corrosion, that was never realized. Note: The album was originally launched on 13 November 1987. For further releases see discogs/Floodland Yeah. Yeah, we might just use one loop from a song and build everything on top of that. Andrew was really creative. I guess the deal was that there had been a band, Sisters Of Mercy, and they broke up. Andrew said, "I'm gonna keep the name." And the rest of them said, "No, we're keeping it." Patricia Morrison Biography". patriciamorrison.co.uk. Archived from the original on 14 August 2011 . Retrieved 8 May 2012.

I’m just not keen on the production or the style of playing or my singing – particularly my singing.

Speculation about a new release was renewed in November 2016, when Eldritch said he might release a new album if Donald Trump were elected president: "I don't think I could keep quiet if that happened." [20] The band has yet to release any new material, but in 2017 they embarked on a European tour in August and September. [21] [22] The band has performed thirteen new songs during concerts held between 2019 and 2022, such as "There is a Door" and "Show Me (On The Doll)," but has yet to make studio recordings available. [23] Since 2012, some of the shows featured a guest appearance by the Irish singer Lisa Cuthbert who performs her cover version of "This Corrosion" on piano. [24] [25] Influence The first time the Sisters were on Top Of The Pops, yes. I’d grown up with Top Of The Pops, so that was like an Oscar to me. But we were on that show so often, it got to be a drag. And we always seemed to be on when Shakin’ Stevens was on. We’ve been called a lot of things – usually, something that I heartily disagree with – but we’ve not often been called a pop band, and we were on Top Of The Pops a lot. After Vision Thing, you entered into a lengthy dispute with your record label, Time Warner, that effectively ended your recording career.Scanlon, Ann (5 March 1988). "Cars, Camels and Cecil B. Recording [ edit ] Eldritch hired Patricia Morrison ( pictured, c. 1978) with the intention of having her play bass guitar on the album.
