About this deal

It was definitely an eye opener and it was so sad how Dovie and Gillian could only be who they really were, indoors. In their apartment, their sanctuary. Hiding away from the cruelties that was 1950s America. Julie Owen Moylan expertly places her readers in a New York apartment, where you feel the heat and hear the tinny radio . . . There's a cinematic quality to this novel; the characters are deftly drawn and emotionally engaging, and the plot develops at the right pace, with unexpected twists. An accomplished debut * Woman & Home, BOOK OF THE MONTH * Heart-breaking but with a satisfying ending, I will remember this book for a long time.’ Louise Hare, author of THIS LOVELY CITY‘ In conclusion, this is a novel rich in potential for the scholar or critic seeking a text to which to apply queer and/or feminist literary analysis. Indeed, it would merit a substantial body of analysis in its own right as well as within a comparative context. I would recommend that any university with a contemporary queer fiction module should add this novel to their reading list.

I loved this. Dovie and Ava are both such compelling characters and the evocation of time and place so strong - I was irresistibly drawn into their stories. Sad, rage-inducing and uplifting - a very emotional read -- Harriet Tyce, author of Blood OrangeCardiff-born Julie Owen Moylan grips us in her queer mystery debut, That Green Eyed Girl. This is not a book to read while feeling tired, as I mistakenly did when I first opened it. Every detail is relevant in this tragic story. Set in the smoky jazz bars of 1950s New York, this debut novel by Julie Owen Moylan brings to life an array of powerful, bold and complicated women - all of whom have their own stories and secrets. The mystery at hand is soft and gently unfolds to climax into a satisfying but heartbreaking ending * Evening Standard, Best Thrillers Books to read in 2022 * Heartbreaking, multi-layered and thoughtfully written, this is a book that stays with you for all the right reasons Culturefly, 'Books To Look Forward To' This is a wonderfully written book that touches on the stigma and treatment of gay women and mental health patients in America, heartbreak and bravery, and how to say enough is enough and take control of your own life. It’s written with such care and detail, and honest to gods, this book broke my heart in multiple places.

A poignant coming of age and a gorgeously romantic and tragic queer love story -- Isabel Costello, author of Paris Mon AmourI really loved the dual timeline, in New York. 1955 the view from Dovie and 1975 the view from Ava. The same apartment but different people. It was so cleverly written in how everything unfolded and was so brilliantly weaved together. I really connected with both Dovie and Ava. Two very different women who just want to be loved and both suffer heartbreak. I really felt the emotions. I've spent the whole day reading this mesmerising book. Such a devastating, gripping story and stunning, powerful writing. Once I started I just could not stop Aliya Ali-Afzal, author of Would I Lie to You I loved this.
