About this deal

I am not sure I was always able to keep up with the ever changing casts in both sections. This was also though a very millennial book I think – as well as a female one – both I think building off the author’s writing in “Treats”. Italian Supper Club - You guessed it - Italian food. Cooked & served in the East London home of one of the organisers with spaces for 20 people, they promise homemade food, organic wines, laughs, fun and joy!

The Disappearing Dining Club- This supper club takes place on the first Saturday of every month. The format is a dinner, then dancing, usually at a secret venue. DJs play before and after dinner, and the fun goes on until the early hours. Following the resounding success of our September Supper Club, The Star Inn The City is thrilled to unveil the next instalment of this extremely popular event! Scratch Secret Suppers - Ex-pat Australian chef Michelle Francis and Jane Kelson offer a Seven Course Seasonal Tasting Menu 2-3 times a month from their lovely looking apartment just off Marylebone High Street. 14-16 diners make this a very social supperclub and great for mingling. Newspapers, radio and film all did their part to popularizesupper clubs in their earlier decades in the U.S., Faiola said.Watch films from Hollywood's Golden Age, and you'll see scenes set in supper clubs; one sidebar in the book recounts the movies in which relish trays were part of the scenery. Wisconsin has a strong tradition The Moveable Feast - A supper club near Clapham Junction aiming to bring people together in a fun and friendly environment over good food. Menus range from pies to share, to five course tasting menus, to detox food.

Book Now Alex Cooper's Underground Supper Club– Alex, a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu School, Paris, is often found hosting his brilliant supper club inside his decommissioned 1967 Victoria Line carriage. With an ever-changing 5-course tasting menu, this is one Tube journey you won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Sabrina's Kitchen- Sabrna Ghayour was the creator of the very popular English Laundry supper club night, and has now started running her own supper club in association with Simon Fernandez of Ferdie's Food Lab (qv), generally held in private houses. Each night covers a different cuisine - Spanish, Pan-Asian and Sabrina's own take on Persian. Bootleg Banquet - A supper club in Shoreditch, run by Pestle & Mortar Catering, who are also available for private catering, and can host private parties for up to 28 people.

I've never read a novel more real about anxiety of the social norm, the question - When do we actually become a full-fledged human being? At first these are fairly safe, albeit joyfully debauched occasions involving a small group of women. They hire restaurants and forage food from supermarket bins. Each evening has a theme, so they dress up as literary heroines, brides or sea creatures. They throw food, take drugs and tear at chunks of meat with their hands. They talk, they shout, they dance, they vomit and then the next day Roberta cleans up. She and Stevie are now so close that they share a bed. Most of their friends are lesbians, and so is Stevie’s mother, but they don’t name theirs as a sexual relationship and Roberta is easily seduced by Adnan, a good-looking flatmate from university who pulls her into a “normal” heterosexual life, persuading her to move in with him. She keeps the supper club a secret, not knowing how to explain it. But Stevie raises the stakes, insisting they must start breaking the law. At the heart of it, this story is about Roberta, her past and her coming-of-age. It is still very much an exploration of women's relationships to their bodies and to food, but these themes are mainly mediated through Roberta, her experience with loneliness and isolation at university, but also her romantic relationships and friendships. The complicated bond between her and Stevie was very well fleshed out, but reminded me almost a little too much of the relationship between Frances and Bobbi in Sally Rooney's Conversations with Friends, which I read a couple of months ago. Roberta's and Stevie's co-dependence was still interesting to read about, but because of the similarities I couldn't stop comparing these two books with each other while I was reading this one. The legend of how supper clubs began— that the first was opened by a Milwaukee native in Beverly Hills, California, in the 1920s — has been taken as gospel long enough, if you ask Ron Faiola. If you thought curries were all about sloppy servings, think again. At ETT Hem by The Curry Bureau, it’s all white tablecloths and perfect presentation. The Indian inspired menu, which specialises in dishes from Bombay, has previously included a fish curry, coconut clams and prawn masala. “The Konkan coast is one of the biggest inspirations for food for us,” says the chef. The organiser has previously hosted a pop-up at Alserkal Avenue, but for the full experience, book yourself a spot on the supper club. Most evenings host eight diners, and include two starters, two mains and a dessert. What is signified by a woman cooking? Is she a domestic goddess, a spinster pursuing her hobby, a witch performing a bacchanalian rite? Roberta learns to cook at university in a northern English city, lonely in a shared flat where she’s failed to make friends, missing her mother. She had thought that scattered beneath her bed would be “a combination of Kafka, coffee grounds and a lover’s old boxer shorts”. When her intimate surroundings turn out to be tidier – “in lieu of a life, I settled on an existence” – she creates mess in the kitchen instead, conjuring elaborate meals, learning to make perfect soufflés that she gives to her flatmates or sometimes just throws away. She’s attempting to assuage the “bottomless, yearning hunger” that has assailed her all her life. Ginger Jar– There’s no cuisine that Ginger Jar hasn’t worked with yet, hosting night after night of different themed evenings of dining every month. Cooked and served inside they’re own professional kitchen, you literally dine as they prepare the next course beside you, with the room filled with the smells of your next dish! Clandestinos - A very prolific supper club based in a house in Finsbury Park, catering for between 12 and 14 guests each time. The suppers have now been running for over two years, and as ever reservations are essential. They can also host private dinners. Adobros - A Filipino supper club in New Cross run by Mike and Mark, that caters for about 12 diners at regular monthly events. It was started out of a passion for Filipino food, and a desire to spread the word across London! Roberta’s unusual mind is left bored by her job as a stylist’s assistant (“I once spent three hours looking at photographs of wrists: determining which wrist was the most appropriate for displaying our new lines of bangles.”) Seeking more excitement, she teams up with co-worker and best friend Stevie to form the supper club.

I guess it’s kind of like a cookery club” I replied “But it’s not just about the actual food. It’s sort of about how we assert ourselves in space. In different spaces. It’s about taking up more space.” As we step into game season, this course captures the essence of Yorkshire’s moors. The shot partridge takes centre stage, surrounded by a support act of wild mushrooms, garden kale, and the richness of braised chestnuts and aged Parmesan. MYO - A Supper Club in Salisbury where guest make their own pizza, as part of a 4 course meal, plus lots of mingling. Hopefully coming to London later this year! Stevie put on “Cut Your Hair” and turned the volume right up. Stevie, Emmeline and I sang the lyric “Darling, don’t you go and cut your hair” DO YOU THINK IT’S GONNA MAKE HIM CHANGE? extra- loud, and Andre looked confused, because of course he didn’t understand.Frankly Peru- Real Peruvan food run by a husbnd and wife team, one of whom is a Michellin trained chef. The club runs once a month at their home in SE26
