About this deal

The animated Star Trek could do things that the not-animated Star Trek couldn’t, like have a crewmember who was a sentient, bipedal cat by the name of Lt. M’Ress. She was from the planet Cait, because ÔǪ well, of course she was, and she had a tendency to purr/ululate between sentences. Maybe you can name your kitty after the legendary Enterprise captain James T. Kirk — a name for a cat who is both thoughtful and action-oriented.

a b c d Wieland, Rob (14 March 2017). "The serious absurdity (and purrfection) of Jenny Parks and 'Star Trek Cats' ". Nerdist. Legendary Entertainment . Retrieved 22 February 2018.Although this book is more an homage than a comedy, it nevertheless has its funny moments. Many of the illustrations recall specific moments in favorite episodes, and some of these moments are very cute indeed. (I did laugh out loud at one of the Tribbles pictures.) A handy chart at the end of the book lists the episodes reenacted.

Kirk is an orange tabby, Chekov is a Russian Blue (could possibly be the distant cousin of Lemmy, my British Shorthair), Scotty is a Scottish Fold, and so on.

They’re not in outer space space — they’re on a Convair C-131, and they didn’t go higher than 12,000 feet — but they’re real cats from 1947, and they’re floating in zero gravity! It was part of cruelty-free experiment in weightlessness by the U.S. Air Force’s Aerospace Medical Research Laboratories in 1947. (Here’s the full video, of which the cats are just a minute and a half.) Spot is the name of Commander Data’s cat, who lived with him while he served aboard the USS Enterprise-D and -E. She had a litter of kittens with one of the other cats on the Enterprise-D. In spite of my excitement, upon its arrival, I initially had an irrational and undeserved hatred of this book. I was expecting it to be more like a children’s picture book with a traditional story, or perhaps simply photographs of actual cats suffering the indignity of wearing Star Trek themed costumes on all manner of fun sets. Whatever I was expecting, it was not what actually arrived.

Not all felinoid races were as peaceful as the Caitians, such as this more warlike race of sentient, bipedal cats. Though they were originally introduced in Larry Niven’s non- Trek stories in the late 1960s, they’re best known outside of sci-fi book clubs from this single appearance in the animated Star Trek. By 2379, Spot still resided aboard the Enterprise-E and was introduced to Data's brother B-4, who curiously pet the feline while staying in Data's quarters. ( Star Trek Nemesis)In 2021, ScreenRant ranked "Catspaw" the 10th scariest episode of all Star Trek franchise television episodes, including later series. [9] Release [ edit ]
