About this deal

There's often some confusion between heated throws and heated blankets. Whilst electric blankets are predominantly used as bedding, heated throws are used in other parts of the home. The heating of the heated throw is not complicated. Use your controller with 5 different settings to adjust the warmth of the throw. You can preheat the bed or sofa using the honeycomb warming throw. Controllers have auto-off so do not worry if you fall asleep.

Those who have circulation issues or nerve damage, as well as those who are pregnant, are recommended to avoid the use of electric throw blankets. It’s a good idea to avoid using a heated blanket with small children and pets around, too. Also make sure that your heated throw blanket is a top layer only: Don’t sit on these blankets or crush them in any way because their internal heating mechanisms may get damaged. Heat Settings This eliminates the risk of electromagnetic radiation and other health hazards. There is no detectable wiring. The blanket will not generate “hot spots”. Safe for diabetics, pregnant women and the elderly. The Degrees of Comfort electric blanket is the most evenly heated blanket in the review. During our temperature test, it experienced the least variation in temperatures throughout the blanket on each setting, meaning that your entire body will be warm with no cool or hot spots. Along with evenly heating, this blanket has an easy-to-use controller that includes a 1-20 heating range, a preheat setting, and a 1-10 hour adjustable auto-off timer. This wide range of customization allows each user to dial in the blanket to meet their needs. The controller's shape is nice, too, allowing the user to set it on an end table or nightstand. This model of Serta warming blanket/ throw is reversible. That is, you can choose the Sherpa side of the electric blanket or a soft fleece side. Both sides of Serta’s electric blanket are comfortable and cozy options. The fabric is 100% polyester.

How we chose the best heated throw

Finally, we looked at the average amount of electricity each blanket used while in operation, by plugging it into an energy monitor. However, the blankets all used such a minor amount of electricity that the data we collected here felt like a secondary consideration, at best.

We love the adjustable auto-shutoff feature, which can be adjusted from one to 10 hours in one-hour increments. And we like that the blanket features 20 different heat settings and comes with a five-year warranty. It’s also machine washable on cold cycle. So, the fact that we use electric blankets for a long period of time, in close proximity to our body, is the main concern. The morning can be a good time to apply heat to combat stiffness or aches. You can use heat—in the form of a blanket, heating pad, sauna, etc.—to help you get moving and warmed up for the day. Langer uses the analogy of taffy to describe what that kind of warmth can do for the body. “If it’s hard and cold and frozen in your freezer, you’re not going to be able to stretch it out,” she explains. “But if we put it out in the sun, it’s going to be all gooey and nice and flexible.”There are also some special features reserved for more expensive electric blankets. For instance, some models have a “preheat” option, which typically heats up the blanket on a warmer setting for 30 minutes or more to get your bed toasty before you hop in. Note that the preheat settings we tested specifically note not to use them when you’re in bed. When shopping for a heated blanket, first consider which size is right for you. “Heat will rapidly disperse across a blanket's surface. Blankets for single beds can be a great size, as they are often more energy-efficient than even larger blankets,” Lalitha McSorley, physical therapist at Brentwood Physio, says. It's also a good idea to note what kind of settings the blanket has, how heavy it is, and how easy it is to care for. The Sunbeam Cozy Feet does several things very well, starting with producing consistent, distributed heat throughout the entire blanket. Larger sizes, like the queen we tested, offer dual heating zones with separate temperature controls so that two people can both sleep comfortably. Yet even in these larger models, the Cozy Feet only uses one power cord, which isn’t true of all heated blankets this size. The primary difference between this blanket and the others, is the size, as this is a standard throw size.
