About this deal

As one of the pioneers of this technique, as well as pioneers of the Scotch industry as a whole, it’s fair to say that buying a bottle of Glenmorangie will never be a bad idea. Palate: The mouthfeel is creamy, soft, and light. The ABV adds warmth in a balanced manner with the flavor. Lightly sweet, like when you get to the bottom of an old fashioned where the undissolved sugar has been sitting. The sweetness dissipates and brings forth baking spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. Juicy orange with a hint of raisin really pops. The finish is extremely soft, with touches of straw and walnut.

A confectionary dream with notes of marzipan, powdered sugar, and toffee. I mostly get fresh orange and honey, Glenmorangie 10 year old is the flagship bottle of the Glenmorangie range. It is an elegant, floral and spirited 10 year old single malt. The 10 year old is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland’s tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks.

Tasting Notes

The colour of the 10 year old is a pale lemony gold and the aroma gives a scent of citrus and ripening peaches that is softened by the fragrance of vanilla. On the palate you can immediately detect vanilla on the tongue before it ripples along the mouth bringing a burst of flowery fruitiness which is then followed by the finish which hits about a minute after tasting. The Finish leaves you with a clean and salving aftertaste with hints of orange and peach, the perfect end to a succulent 10 year old.

Some distilleries reuse their casks as many as six times, but Glenmorangie has a firm “twice only” rule. A large amount of the whisky’s depth and complexity can be attributed to these casks and Glenmorangie will almost always be revered as being one of the first to put this into practice. If you’re drinking an older bottle of Glenmorangie (anything aged for 14 years or longer) we’d recommend enjoying it the traditional way: with the correct glassware and the right accompaniments. That means a Brandy Snifter glass and clear ice cubes made from filtered water. Palate: Orange hits the tongue first. It is light and supple before turning peppery and warm. Initially, I get a sweetness of marzipan, but then it turns slightly sour. The finish is bitter similar to a high percentage dark chocolate. But the ‘80s and ‘90s saw a gradual move away from blends to concentrate on single malts. For many years, the 10 Year Old expression was the only one bottled by the distillery but in 1987 Glenmorangie released a 1963 vintage single malt which was finished in oloroso sherry casks. This was followed in the early ‘90s by a Port cask-finished whisky and then a plethora of other cask finishes like Madeira, sherry and Sauternes. The switch to single malts was completed in 2014 when the Bailie Nicol Jarvie was discontinued. Innovative: if there’s one word that best describes Glenmorangie, it’s that. And for many reasons, starting from its seriously tall towering stills that are proudly described firstly as being the tallest in Scotland and secondly as being the same height as a fully grown giraffe. It remained under the same ownership for the next 90 years, but Glenmorangie still suffered from the ups and downs that plagued the industry throughout the 20th century. The American market was particularly important for Macdonald & Muir with their Highland Queen blended whisky, named after Mary Queen of Scots. Consequently, Glenmorangie struggled throughout Prohibition, which came into force in 1919, and the distillery closed in 1931, only to reopen in 1936.
