About this deal

I thought a firmware upgrade might solve the problem, but although the box connects to Netgem services in Advanced Settings - no update. This is a totally subjective issue, but I like to have the TV Guide front and centre and other services available at a button press, whereas Netgem has gone for a slightly weirder presentation. He has seen and covered just about every console, mobile phone, gadget and home cinema device launched in the last 35+ years.

Along with this came what used to be Freeview Play’s ace in the hole: the ability to scroll backwards through the TV guide and watch programmes that had already been shown up to seven days prior. Overall, the Netbox 4K is a vast improvement on the Netbox HD in terms of design and user interface, and we liked the updated layout of the Netgem app. Setting up the Netbox 4K is a completely seamless experience, far easier than setting up its predecessor – simply connect to the internet via WiFi or the included ethernet cables. Along with the new streaming box, Netgem has released the new Netgem 4K streaming platform with a brand new layout. The range of channels includes one that shows back-to-back episodes of Survivor – the iconic US TV series, which has been absent from UK TV for years – and is also available on Samsung’s TV player.

This means that once the Netbox learns your TV tastes – for example, you like dramas – it will try to show you personalised recommendations from Freeview Play apps (such as the BBC), or dramas available on Prime Video, or even related movies available to rent on Rakuten.

The current basic box has been developed and improved and now includes extra features and free services for streaming purposes as well as free TV and films. I kinda wish that the “Home” button was slightly bigger though, as I spent a lot of time in that particular screen rather than the large “Freeview Play” and “Netgem TV” screens linked to with the larger buttons at the top of the remote. So explore and keep exploring while you can to get better adjusted to what's on Freeview and beyond when using the Internet as well.First, you get all the free over-the-air Freeview channels (provided you have good reception in your house). I have solved the issue by reversing the procedure and using the TV remote to control the Netgem box. I also found that recording from live TV would block me from switching to other live TV channels, which was something I wasn’t really used to. Apparently, this aids discoverability, as you get a whole bunch of programmes and movies tailored to you when you first open the page.

Those extra bits may require an extra separate subscription (such as Prime Video) etc, but it's all available on one box, which is the good thing.Really small and compact ,and by using a downloaded (to my phone)app it is really very easily set up,excellent quality of picture even though I have a very poor ariel, and a huge range of built in apps and channels ,many in varied languages, yes once I get used this box I think I'm going to enjoy it,why pay expensive monthly subscriptions when you have this level of viewing free, must be at least 20 different sports on at anyone time. If, however, you know what you want to watch (and particularly WHERE) – this can get a bit cumbersome. The recording function is very poor and seems to interfere with the internet transmission of other programmes while it's operating.
